The Time Traveler's Wife
I think I remember someone mentioning that they had read this book. I read half of it and can't get back into again.
What I did today though was watch the DVD of the movie! That must have been a very difficult adapted screenplay to write.
The movie was great. I don't get emotional at many movies but this one did bring a tear.
Anyone else see it?

My daughter has it, she couldn't finish it, but she liked the movie....
The book is just too confusing.

Re: The Time Traveler's Wife
I saw the movie and then I read the book. I loved the movie and also loved the book.
I am sort of into the supernatural thing. I have premenitions (sp) and a bit more, so these types of things interest me.
It was the Shack that I had a hard time finishing.
I bought the movie so I am looking forward to re-watching it with my mom.

Re: The Time Traveler's Wife
It really helps to have an intimate understanding of time travel and to have made a few trips forward and backward. My real name is Dr. Who and if you do not know who that is, then you either are too young or never watch the Si-Phi channel.
Here is some food for thought. Jesus Christ did some time travel in the Bible. He proved that it is possible.

Hal,
You just made me smile again. I do know who Dr Who is and watched the old version. There is a new version that I've never gotten into (it's on my PBS station).
You piqued my curiosity - time travel and the Bible. I've never caught that theme...can you point me to a couple of passages?

I remember passing by Dr Who on PBS when I was a kid. British TV did not interest me back then.
I love time travel themed stuff. Back to the Future was way cool......I don't think I'll be seeing the Hot Tub Time Machine movie though...;-)

Re: The Time Traveler's Wife
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember a Dr. Who from my childhood. Meaning there would have been on in the early to mid 80's but could have been reruns at that point.
The newer version that I see on PBS I haven't gotten into. I think it was the main character - something about him rubbed me the wrong way. May start again though....

Re: The Time Traveler's Wife
I watched Dr. Who when I was a kid and that was, well it was a long time ago. I liked it better than the current one. They used to kill off the Doctor every now and then and claim he was going through some metamorphasis and hire a new actor to play the part. I really enjoyed his female companions. They always had such a beautiful pair of eyes. The current Doctor doesn't seem to do as well in that department.
As for getting Dr. Who in the USA, there are several programs from BBC that I enjoy. I can't think of the name, but there is a comody with a group of old people that I find humorous. I find very few comody shows that are truly funny. This one does quite well.

Becky,
I will get back to you with chapter and verse. Once explained, it is easy to see and not all that far fetched.

Re: The Time Traveler's Wife
Hal - is the show your referring to "Keeping Up Appearances"? Main character is Hyacinth married to Richard, Sisters- Daisy (married to Onslo), Rose and Violet and I always pity her poor neighbors, Elizabeth and Emmet.
There's another one but it's more of a drama "As time goes by" with Judy Dench. There are a few others that I enjoyed as well but they have gone off the air here - The Royal and Doc Martin.
And obviously the Dr. Who I remember must have been in reruns by the time I saw it but I did enjoy it.

Re: The Time Traveler's Wife
So fun. You have all our old BBC programmes.
Keeping up Appearances is about Hyacinth Bouquet a working class snob.
It finished a long time ago, but was very popular. Still re runs on cable.
Dr Who has been running since the 60s. We have had 10 different Doctors. As you say Hal he goes through metamorphasis
The eleventh starts next week. The last one David Tennant has proved one of the most popular.
I wonder which one you didnt care for?
We didnt like the 7th or the 9th.
Wikipedia has a load of info. I haven't seen much of it since my kids have been grown up

Re: The Time Traveler's Wife
I had a feeling that some of them quit a while ago. Although, they are always good to catch in reruns. And it's Hyacinth Bucket (this is what always kills me - that she spells it and then pronounces the way she thinks it ought to sound).
The ones they've taken off the air here I wish they'd bring back - even just in reruns...I really did enjoy watching them.

Quite a few KUA on You Tube. Glad you liked it. My friend in Denmark hates it I guess the must have different humour.
In fact she doesnt like anything from the BBC....but she sure isn't anti English.....
What else do you get there?
I hope you don't get "East Enders"?

Re: The Time Traveler's Wife
I haven't heard of East Enders but perhaps someone else has (not all PBS stations have the same programming). Currently the other ones that are on are Lark Rise to Candleford (not sure if this is BBC) and MI5 (or is it 6). Not so interested in the latter...

Re: The Time Traveler's Wife
I have read The T-T-W, and I liked it very much although near the end I had an impression the author was kinda stalling and repeating herself, not sure how to best end the story.
But on the whole I found this book very very interesting. I haven't had a chance to see a movie yet,
but I am very intrigued how did they relayed such a book into a movie. how did they interpreted it.
can't wait to rent it and watch it!
btw Audrey Niffenegger already has another book out, "Her Fearful Symmetry".
The review is quite intriguing:
Twins. Cemeteries. Ghosts. Lovely and engaging writing. If any of these things sound interesting, you should pick up Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger, author of The Time Traveler's Wife. It's being published on Tuesday.
Elspeth Noblin, aged 44, dies of cancer in London, leaving her downstairs neighbor and lover, Robert, bereft. Elspeth had an identical twin sister, Edie, whom she had not seen since shortly after Edie ran off to America with Elspeth's fiance, Jack Poole.
Edie and Jack themselves have a set of twin daughters, Julia and Valentina. Elspeth leaves her apartment to them in her will, with the stipulations that the girls live there for a year and that Jack and Edie never set foot in it. The twins, as they are often called — they are identical mirror twins and exceptionally close — accept. They are smart but without direction, have already dropped out of college twice, so it seems like a fine idea to leave their native Chicago to move to London for a year.

I'm gonna wait for the cheaper paper cover edition as I have plenty of books to choose from right now,
but this sure sounds like a good read once again.

I used to watch "Rising Damp", "Good Neighbors" and the Australian show, "Mother and Son", which had me laughing so hard my sides hurt!
I wish Cleese had done more "Fawlty Towers" episodes. I watch the 13 of them whenever I get the chance.

I read time travelers wife and liked it.
I got really into it at the start, I got sucked right in but it bored me a little bit in the middle, overall I think it was quite good.
