Re: Depression/Topamax
everyone else has pretty much said it,
It can be great for some people, but you just have to increase the dose very slowly so you don't lose insight as to what are the side effects and what is your real feelings.
I couldn't tolerate more than 50mg! Im pretty weak. ha. At 75mg I got intense negative thoughts, lack of motivation, unable to move, nervousness, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. I reduced back to 50mg. I still got another episode of suicidal thoughts in line with my time of the month.
And 4 months later after coming off it I can see I was depressed and anxious and laced motivation the whole time I was on it. Although I had good insight still It is easy to believe the negative thoughts as they are essentially your own. So I only realised what was normal when i stopped taking it.
But It did have its benefits, I have daily migraine and it brought it down from a level 8 to 3-5. Mostly 4/5 now I have stopped taking it. But havent had above a level 6 for 12 weeks now. It brought it down almost instantly too, from a level 8 to 3 only two days after increasing it to 50mg. But it went up again after I increased the dose and experienced suicidal thoughts.
Still the side effects out weighed the benefits eventually, as at a level 4/5 I still couldnt watch tv, socialise or use a computer longer than 20 minutes. So on top of that the side effects meant I didnt leave the house.
good luck x
