Depression question
How many of you are bothered by depression? Either in general or just before a migraine attack?
I get very depressed / negative just before an attack. It is one of the ways I know one us coming on.
But I've also been noticing some general depression, even though overall I have been doing much better headache wise. I'm trying to decide if this is related or separate.

Re: Depression question
I rarely struggle with depression but if it happens at all it seems to be part of a hormone fluctuation. Not always connected with a migraine but sometimes. The depression only seems to last one or two days though and normally only once or twice a year.

RE: Depression Question
I struggle with depression most days....just due to the constant pain in my head. There are many hobbies I used to enjoy, but can't do them anymore because of the monsters.

Re: Depression question
I definitely have some tendencies towards depression, but more significantly, anxiety. Depression is quite common with chronic pain. Its worthwhile to try some treatments, especially therapy, as having someone to talk to can be helpful. I've also found some medications increase the depression, including anti depressants and anti seizure medications. Best wishes.

Re: Depression question
Yes, I have depression sometimes. It's not timed with my migraines, since they are daily, but any other negative life event can trigger severe depression. I completely lose my appetite, lose 10lbs in a week or two, sleep all the time (12+ hours per day), have intense feelings of restlessness, sadness, hopelessness. It usually lasts between 2-8 weeks when it happens and can be several times per year.
On normal days, I feel my mood fluctuates up and down more than most people. Any small thing can make me feel "rotten" for a few hours or a day. On other days, nothing seems to get me down. I think depression is very common with migraines.
I had significant improvement to my depression, especially the everyday aspect of it, after I stopped eating food coloring. I used to keep myself very secluded, didn't have many friends or even really enjoy hanging out with people. Did not like to go places, even just the grocery store. Now I have the basics such as friends and going places sometimes without it being a problem.

Re: Depression question
I sometimes have what I call "doom and gloom" after my migraine aura symptoms ease up.........I believe that migraines lower our seratonin levels and this depression is the result. I don't have depression symptoms normally just after the migraines ease up. I am sorry that you are dealing with depression on top of the migraines - do you take daily meds for your migraines or any other conditions? Please mention it to your doc just in case he/she can help.

Re: Depression question
When my migraine cycle was every 10 days I always had an hour or so of the darkest depression around 10 am every morning. Every day it came, it went. Now I'm on a low carb diet and I've lost that particular mid morning depression.

Re: Depression question
Sadly, depression and anxiety are co-morbid with migraine. I have anxiety as part of my pro-drome, and fairly moderate depression with post-drome. I also have depressive symptoms resulting from chronic pain. Quite a few anti-depressants are used as preventives, so maybe that might be an option to explore.

Depression Question
I suffer from depression but it is well controlled with my anti-depressants. However, I do notice a mood swing before a migraine hits. I either get depressed or agitated.

Re: Depression question
I have Depressive Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified. It might be Dysthymia, instead; since I suffer from a low level of depression all of the time.
I also have Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
Several months ago, I was started on low doses of the generic antidepressants Citalopram 10 mg once per day, and Bupropion 37.5 mg twice per day. They seem to be making me more depressed, instead of less.
