Tinnitus help
Does anyone get this with their migraines? If so, how do you cope with it. Mine has become horrible lately and it's driving me mental especially since my headaches are becoming more frequent!

I get tinnitus with migraines also. There really isn't anything you can do. White noise can help if you are having trouble sleeping. Maybe someone else has a better idea but I just try to ignore the clarion bells in my ears as much as possible.

Re: Tinnitus help
Hi there,
Sorry to hear you're having tinnitus. I've had it since I was a child and tried a few things. Now I don't need anything really - I've habituated to it and don't really notice it much except when it ramps up with stress to a RAOWR. My sound of tinnitus is the high pitched electrical noise type with a few different pitches - not the train sound one. I also sometimes get the one which is like a plane flying at my head but that's not so often.
It must be so much harder as an adult to learn to habituate to it. Anyway, when I was a teenager and couldn't sleep with it, I had a cassette walkman (showing my age) which played waterfalls and nature sounds. That was lovely. It covered the tinnitus and let me sleep. Another trick was to use white noise from a fan or air conditioner which also covered the tinnitus. Have you tried those - they really are a welcome release.
Good luck!

Yes, a soft radio playing in the background helps, my husband who suffers badly has the radio on most nights. The problem arises of course if you have a bad head and can't take the noise. The conundrums we are faced with!!!

Re: Tinnitus help
I do get this and also hyperaccusis which in turns becomes a cause of migraines. I found a wonderful resource at. http://www.chat-hyperacusis.net/. The tinnitus may well be a side effect of one of your medications, or could be caused by other means.
They have a lot of good advice and connections to resources for people struggling with hyperaccusis, tinnitus, and many other sound related problems. I contacted one of the audiologists that were trained in Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) and was able to get a significant reduction in my problems. I highly recommend it.

Re: Tinnitus help
My neurologist tells me that tinnitus is common with migraine patients. Mine started about the same time as my numbness, and apparently both are "fairly common." My Tinnitus gets REALLY loud before and during a migraine. Sometimes I think I should stand clear of the glass because it should shatter at any moment!

I used a product called TEBONIN (Ginkgo biloba extract)
http://www.tebonin.com.au
Not sure if it is available in all countries, but I found that it improved (but not cured) my vertigo and tinnitus.

I've had tinnitus approx 35 years. It does get louder with a migraine but nothing stops it. It's hard to believe but you do get used to it.

Have you tried Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT)? I found this to be very effective.

I have tinnitus 24/7 (and have had for several decades), whether or not I have a migraine. Pitch and loudness can vary, but the noise never goes away.

Re: Tinnitus help
i thought the tinnitus was part of the ear problem i was having. i got a tube put in my right ear about a year ago. it fell out about 6 months ago, as it should do. but the tinnitus continues and i'm now officially losing my hearing, too.
