Tinnitus. Much of a Problem?
Do you all get much of it? I tend to get it in one ear at a time, but can be both.
Today it has been driving me nuts. I dont even know how it started.
My left ear sounds like the shower scene from Psycho.
I just wondered if everyone gets it and if anyone has any remedies.
I am trying to ignore it and wasnt doing too badly in the iving room
Now its sleep time and its all I can hear.
Anyway, good night.

Re: Tinnitus. Much of a Problem?
I have had tinnitus 24/7 for at least twenty years. It is very stressfull, since there is no such thing as peace and quiet - ever; and we all know that our migraine brains demand peace and quiet. Sometimes it changes pitch and/or intensity in one or both ears, but so far it has never gone away.
I just reread Stop Your Tinnitus: Causes, Prevetatives, and Treatments by Phyllis Avery; Hygeia Publishing Company, 1358 Fern Place, Vista, California 92083 {or 2422 Hutchinson Street, Vista, California 92084 - on the order form in the back of the book} USA; Copyright 1993 (second edition, revised and expanded); ISBN: 1-880598-24-1 {or 1-880598-22-1 onthe backcover}.
I have just started reading an e-book on tinnitus by a different author, that cost $39.00.
Apparently, we need to eliminate toxins from our diets and lives. I am now trying to transition to a more bland elimination diet comprised mostly of raw natural foods. One that is without gluten, dairy, citrus, chocolate, all spices and condiments, etc. Hopefully, it will also decrease head pain as well.

Re: Tinnitus. Much of a Problem?
Really dumb question...so tinnitus is like a ringing in the ears?

Yes, incessant, annoying, aggravating ringing or buzzing. I've had it pretty much non-stop of several months. I've had short periods of it my whole life but the last few months have been non-stop. I think mine is caused by Effexor. I'm seeing my Dr next week to talk about it. It is one of the side effects so I hope I can wean off and get rid of it. It is driving me nuts.
I can't even imagine having it for 20 years.

Re: Tinnitus. Much of a Problem?
Yeah - I have several 'tones' - one very much right sided around a middle 'C' that sometimes sounds like morse code, sometimes a constant note. I hear that all day every day. Another feels like it's coming right out the top of my head and is a very very high pitched note, I only hear this at night time or when it's very quiet.
I also get a massive massive lorry crashing into the roaring sea tinnitus for about 3 minutes during aura phase of migraine. Hateful.
I've had to train myself not to listen to it. It was a long hard slog, but have reconditioned myself to find peace in the very very high pitched one, because I can only hear it at night, I've learned to associate that with quiet, with rest, and ultimately with sleep, whereas before I lay awake all night, tuned into the music in my ears panicking that I'd never sleep again.
Tinnitus is really tricky because I don't think there's really any cure once you're "tuned in" to hearing it, you'll always hear it - it's how you deal with it that counts. I seriously used to panic, absolute cold sweat panic when I tuned in to it at night... but no more, thankfully

Tennitis

Anyway, good night.
I've had Tennitis for about 8 years now and am 58 years young. Intensity varies depending on the barometric pressure but what is most important, I learned quite quickly how to manage it. Stay busy and focus on other things like forums! Just kidding, but I have researched remedies (Nyacin Tablets) and none has had any effect....so, I just manage it by either music or TV in the background when I work and when I go to sleep, I leave the television on as a distraction. You might want to try listening to music or plug into an Ipod when you go to sleep as long as it is something that distracts you from the sound you hear. What is remarkable, there might be a day or two every six months, where the high pitched sound just disappears; but only for a day. I've resisted any medication and so far, I am really ok with the things I've mentioned. I hope this helps, good luck!
