Occipital nerve block injection?
Hi;
Has anyone had an occipital nerve block injection for migraine?
My mum has been told to have them but she is unsure if they will be helpful.
If anyone has had one we would love to hear your experience of them.
Also any additional info on them would be useful.
Thanks
Julzie

Yes, I have had them a few times. I haven't had any success with them though. I have heard some people have found relief that way, but i didn't. i didn't mind getting it done. It really didn't seem to hurt, just felt really strange.

Re: Occipital nerve block injection?
I am sure we had a discussion on the subject in the last few month here, so try to do a search so you can find out more.
The general outcome after the occipital nerve injection, was positive.
However, this techinique is still quite new and many doctors try in on patients before they have anough experience, so the results can be uncertain.
Knowing where to inject is crucial as you need to find the tiny spot, and you need a very experinced doctor to find it.
It is also important to have both: a mix of steroid and painkiller (like lidocaine) at the same time.
I would definitely have it again.
Just make sure that you go to someone who is very experinced.
