My wife and daughter just brought them home from the feed store. Our previous chickens were all snatched by something. So now we will be building a bigger maximum security coop.

They're so cute when they're babies. Why do they have to grow up? Fresh eggs will be worth it though.

Hope your maximum security coop is successful. Varmints seem to be able to squirm in to the most tightly securied areas. flower

We're going to put up a hot wire around the outside this time. I will also use my camera trap to see what might be lurking around.

We have a ranch just 1/2 mile away that uses llamas to protect the calves from coyotes. They have had no calves lost since using them. I was driving past one of their pastures and saw a coyote running extremely fast. Faster then I have ever seen one run before. And then a split second later here comes the llama over the bluff with his ears pasted back flat chasing the coyote. They apparently really, really hate anything in the canine family.

Lots of sheep and goat ranchers also use them to protect the flock. It's a great balance and control of predation without killing or trapping.

Brent,

Many ranchers here in Montana use llamas to guard their sheep. You'll see them everywhere.

A camera his a good idea.

These are sex links, we have had good success with them over the years. And the Rhod reds seem to do good here also.

aww those are so cute!!!

Are you sure it's just coyotes? My friend's chickens were snatched by a hawk, once right in front of their little boy. He was so upset.

We just raise them for eggs. Farm raised chicken is great but too much of a hassle in my book.
