No, it was Lilly, our youngest basset (at 8 yoa).
You know, I didn't ask what causes it, but online it said overweight, middle aged females are more prone to it. I better watch out!
She wouldn't get up for supper, and she's always the first one demanding her food. Her tummy was distended and her gums were really red. She wouldn't stand up and was just lying there trembling.
Because of the red gums they had to rule out that she had eaten something toxic. She also had x-rays to rule out any blockage.
The x-ray showed that she was full of p**p. They said that happens, when they're in pain in the tummy they don't want to have a bowel movement. So, I'm currently cooking up rice for her to help get her bowels moving.
She was dehydrated (so she had IV fluids), nauseaus (so a shot for that), antibiotics, and tramadol for pain.
She should be fine, though neither one of us are looking forward to getting up and walking her to make sure she p**ps. We, and the dogs, have gotten very spoiled by the doggy door.
It's a good thing she's so cute and sweet! She was a very expensive date tonight!

Glad to hear Lilly is going to be okay! I hate it when that happens!!
My husband came home with this dog. This crazy puppy. I was mad, the puppy was cute.
We made it work. A couple days later, the puppy got really sick.
I now loved the dog, and proceeded to pay up the butthole to save
the dogs life because she had parvovirus.
About $900 later and 3 days of sleeping on the kitchen floor,
feeding her baby food, yogurt, and water through a
syringe and cleaning up the raunchiest poo in the world, she made it.
We were so broke. Paper towels are also very expensive so it was actually like, $1000.
Ah..the things we do for our animals. Even from day one!

Good to hear she will be ok, emergency vets are extremely expensive. But what are we as pet lovers to do when our "kids" get sick, we gotta take care of them.

I'm so glad Lilly will be okay. I'm sure it was a little scary seeing her just lying there.
I know it was expensive, but what is money compared to helping "someone" we love. Our pets give us so much unconditional love, companionship and entertainment. They're worth their weight in gold.
Think of the alternative......Christmas would have been much worse if Lilly wasn't helped, I'm sure.
Thankful that Lilly is okay,
Becky

Just an update. Lilly is still not moving much and is bloated, but she is wagging her tail now whenever I walk by, so she must be feeling a little better.
Yes, she is definitely worth every penny we spent on her. Before my back went out, she was my migraine lovebug. She would lay next to me in bed, quiet as could be, back to back. My living heating pad.
However, we have a really high bed, and she has REALLY short legs so I can't lift her up there anymore.

I was wondering why you had her legs shortened ;-)
I hope Lilly is feeling better and better.

Grin.
She does kind of look like she's looking down at her royal subjects, doesn't she?

I'm so glad Lilly is wagging her tail. That's such a good sign.
I hope the bloating decreases as the hours go by--that's uncomfortable for a human....I can't imagine how a puppy dog must feel.

Emergency vets are very expensive aren't they!!!!
I had a near 300hundred pound bill for what was, pretty much, a shot of anti biotics and a weeks worth to take home!
I nearly passed out!! (But I would do it again if it came to it!)
I hope the treatment was successful at least, I've not had the chance to read the entire thread yet, I will later though

Re: Emergency Vet Bills & pic's of sweet Lilly (scroll down)
We had a Bichon Frise, she lived to be 17, but for MANY of those years my mom paid out THOUSANDS due to pancreatitis. Maggie, our Bichon, had huge desire for chocolate and brought these attacks on herself many times. She would dig and find chocolate no matter where it was our how thick/heavy the box was.
One time she even had charcoal treatments.
It was awful though...it was a massive financial cost all the time.........and sad as we would almost lose her so many times. Her making it to 17 was a miracle.
Hope your baby is healthy again.

hope she gets better soon.
We've been there too with emergency bills. My kitty Emma maxed out her insurance one year(£3500) and we had to pay a load out on top because of a broken leg. I wouldn't swop her for the world.
