A good doctor
Any 2 years, our Company schedules a check up for employees.
After years with a dummy doctor who accused me to cause myself migraines (!) and who stated that back pain is due to exercise and not to sitting at a desk in front of a monitor for 10 hours a day (!), the Company has finally decided to fire him and hire a new good doctor.
I was very impressed by this young lady.
She did a long interview and visited me with attention. She was very nice to answer questions and give advice.
AND, above all, she is a migraine sufferer!!!! We spent 15 minutes to exchange information and experiences. I found out that we use the same abortives and I once again asked advice about the toxic effects of certain drugs on liver, heart and kidneys.
She first replied "officially" that at the recommended dosage drugs are safe. Which is what all docs say.
Then, she "unofficially" said that she doesn't care about doses when migraine is too bad...It's impossible to bear a bad attack and feeling better is the priority.
This is more or less what my GP also thinks (she's also a migraine sufferer....)
I wish that all doctors were migraine sufferer

Re: A good doctor
Ivy I do have a book written by a neuro who is a migraine sufferer. He does offer a different take to many.
He is American so some of the info differs, but its a good book.

As for using the narcotics, one person suggested asking your doctor for Stadol NS, as it worked well for them. It does work well. Just be careful using the stuff. It is highly addictive. It works by going thru your nasal membranes. According to my pharmacist, it is easier to become addictive to a substance thru your nasal passages than any other way. Who knows??? I do like the way stadol ns works, I just wanted you to be aware.

Re: A good doctor
Stadol is actually a schedule 4 controlled substance which is one of the hardest to become addicted to. The reason people become dependent or addicted to it is because they enjoy the euphoria associated with Stadol, not because of the way it is administered or because of the actual drug itself. Stadol is actually one of the least addictive narcotics out there, it is just very abused because of the high it gives users.
here's a link for more information on Stadol NS

thanks for the update
Thanks for updating us about the classification of stadol ns. I always thought stadol ns was a class III drug. When I read your post, I went to the DEA website & searched myself and saw that it is indeed a class IV drug. I am shocked, because I know that a lot of people have become addicted to it, as from the lawsuits filed with the company who first developed Stadol NS. In 1999, my neuro. told me that stadol was not at all addictive. My mother who is a RN, was highly skeptical since Stadol in the injectable form is addictive. She just advised me to be cafeful with it and only take it as directed which is what I do. No problem!
I've been told, and I don't know if it is true or not, that the reason one cannot purchase namebrand Stadol NS is because of all the lawsuits and that the company that first came out with it no longer makes the stuff. Thank goodness for the generics!!! This drug is a lifesaver for me! It keeps me out of the ER! Have a great weekend! I hope everyone can be as painfree as possible. I've already had one zomig for the day. I hope I don't have to have another!!!

Re: A good doctor
I think that classification stuff is bologny for abusers. I think if a product gets you high, it will be addictive mentally if abused. The classification system is really based on physical withdrawl symptoms. I think stadol is very dangerous because of the potential to become mentally addicting. I believe it is much easier to kick a physical addiction than a mental one any day.
If I took vicodin or fioricet for pain and had to kick it, I think it would definitely suck but it would suck way more if I liked the high feeling and took it when I had no pain at all and had to kick it. Your brain tells you I want this, so you have to tell yourself no. That's where many people have the problem. I couldn't imagine myself giving in and taking a fioricet simply because I felt flu-like withdrawl symptoms. I would only give in if I wanted the high.
BUT people on this forum tend to be extremely responsible with their medications so I don't see this happening too often. It is great to have a medication like stadol and know it is a class 4 as it may be a better option to some then going to the ER for demerol, which is class 2! Helpful info for us responsible people!
PS. We both have nurses for moms. Fun, they love to be skeptical about EVERYTHING! LOL
Have a great weekend as well, hope your M breaks!
