My son spent all day in hospital yesterday, so worried.......
He's 32 and married with two beautiful children. It's a long story but to cut it short he had two seizures in the night, his wife called us at 3.30 yesterday morning for us to go over there, I stayed all day (until 2 a.m. this morning) to look after my grandchildren, hubby went to the hospital with her after the paramedics took him away. He has never had anything like this before and even he is shocked. He's not allowed to drive for 3 to 6 months, and is waiting to see a specialist. The CT scan and MRI revealed a small lesion on the brain.
He has had concussions before playing ice hockey so I suspect it could be the cause. They don't think it's a tumour.
I have had such a horrible migraine all day which happens any time I have a worry or a scare.
Anybody else here ever had a seizure? I just hope and pray it's nothing serious. He also developed a horrible headache in the hospital and they gave
him Prednisone. It seemed to help but made him very sick.

Oh Ruth, I am so sorry to hear about your son. I know how scared you are right now. I do not have any experince with what your son had but hopefully someone else here can shed some light.
I hope they soon have some answers for him as to what caused this, and what to expect in the future.
Know that my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family and of course you and your husband. I hope it is something easy to fix.
Staying with your grandchildren is a big help to your son and daughter in law. They do not have to worry about the kids. Let them help you keep your mind clear.
Hope your migraine lets up for you.
Big hugs to you and the family.

Oh Ruth I am so sorry, how awfully worried you must be.
I have never had anything like that nor I know of anyone with a brain lession
but perhaps you remember the story of my longtime girl friend who was Dx with very malignant tumor?
well I am happy to report she is alive and well, so well she is supposed to go back to work!
I am sure your son, too under the good care of the doctors will heal in no time and be back on his feet.
Big gentle hugs, Risa

Re: My son spent all day in hospital yesterday, so worried.......
I hope everthing works out. Seizures are scary. I had one about 18 months ago but it took my bf about 2 days to tell me all the details. I wish he had told me when I had it so I could have been checked out immediately, but he apparently didn't want to deal with the whole situation. He's now an ex-bf for the "I don't want to deal with it reasons".
I went back on anti-seizure meds and haven't had one since. I need to be checked further as there is a possibility that I have MS which can cause seizures among other things. I hope that it turns out to be something very treatable.

Dear Ruth,
I haven't been here in a while and your post is the first one I've come to since I am back. I am so terribly sorry to hear about your son's seizure. I don't know anything about them but I am pretty sure if it was a tumor, you would know it by now.
I have heard of people having a seizure out of the blue, for no discernible reason and never having one ever again. I will hold that thought close to my heart for your son's case.
I am sure I can speak for everyone when I request you tell us when you have any news and please know we are all very concerned about this. Take care of yourself. I am positive your availability (as a babysitter) is such a comfort to your daughter-in-law as she goes through this health issue with your son.
All my best,
£eslie

Re: My son spent all day in hospital yesterday, so worried.......
Ruth,
I am so sorry to hear about that. How frightening.
My best friend's 15 year old son started having grand mal seizures when he was 10. Out of the blue he dropped in the hallway a school. Even though tests show he is constantly having seizure activity, he is doing very well with his seizure med's so much so he will be able to get his driver's license when he is 16.
It took some time tinkering with the med's to get the right dosage and right anti-seizure med, but he hasn't had a seizure in several years.
The only side effect he has from the med's is a slight trembling of his hands.
I think they have come a long way in the control of seizures and am hopeful that things work out for the best for your son.
Both my boys had seizures when they were 10 hours old. Never had another one and we have no idea why. My eldest went completely catatonic and had to be transfered by neonatal ambulance to a neo-natal ICU. He never had another one, and had no residual damage. I think they just wanted to scare the puddin' out of a new mother.
So daughter-in-law is so lucky to have you there.
Thinking of you and your family.

Re: My son spent all day in hospital yesterday, so worried.......
Ruth,
I am so sorry. I hope all turns out well with your son, and I will keep him in my thoughts.
My sister has epilepsy. She didn't have her first seizure until her mid 20's. She has grand mal, and was quite scared when she realized she had the whole ordeal, as anyone would be. She had to try a few medications and had her drivers license taken away a couple of times but she has gotten it under control with topamax and hasn't had a seizure in a couple of years now. She can drive and do everything normally. She did have some complications with kidney stones but she weighed the risks of kidney stones and continuing topamax and decided to stick with topamax. I hope this helps, as she is completely healthy, normal and happy besides having to take a couple pills at night. I hope this turns out to be the same for your son, or even better...maybe this was a rare event for him.
I will be thinking of you.

Re: My son spent all day in hospital yesterday, so worried.......
Oh, Ruth, I'm so sorry. Hopefully the doctors will get to the bottom of the seizures quickly.
My DIL has seizures. When she was in early pregnancy with our first grandbaby, she had a grand mal seizure--scared the heck out of my son. I stayed with them for several days while the meds she was prescribed kicked in because my son was afraid she'd have another seizure while he was at work. I was very scary for all of us. Her seizures are caused by a severe head injury she received in a car accident in her teen years.
Now, she's under pretty good control with meds. Still feels funny occasionally, but hasn't had another grand mal. We're so thankful for good anti-seizure meds. She's a busy mom of three now. We still worry about her, but she's doing well.
Hang in there. Your family is in my prayers.
Becky

Ruth,
So sorry to hear about your son.
I can only imagine how you must be feeling right now with no clear diagnosis as of yet.
My Mom and I are praying God's protection and healing over him.
If you don't mind just giving me his first name, we will put him on the prayer list.
I completely understand if you don't want to.
Please take care of yourself and keep us posted on how he is doing.
Cindy

Re: My son spent all day in hospital yesterday, so worried.......
Thankyou all for your kind words, thoughts and prayers.
My son Andrew went to the hospital today and they told him the problem is he has a Cavernoma on the front part of the brain. I've been looking it up although I probably shouldn't.
He was told he was probably born with it, although he's 32 now. It's basically something that bleeds into the brain, he can't drive for 3 months until he's been
re evaluated, and has to take anti seizure meds. for life. He also musn't do anything on his own that could be dangerous like swimming, climbing a ladder etc.
He and his wife didn't seem quite so worried when they got back from the hospital, I think they were thinking it was much more serious, although looking
up different sites has got me a little worried, but I know it's all in God's hands, and we will just take one day at a time.
Thankyou Cindy for yours and your mum's prayers, I appreciate any prayers for Andrew

Ruth,
I am so glad to hear that the diagnosis is reasonably benign. I hope that they get the dose right on the meds right away and he can jump back in to the business of living.

Hi Ruth,
glad to hear that your son's problem is manageable and nothing serious.
I know that it may sound scary, but he will learn how to co-live with this and I'm glad that he and his wife are calm enough. It helps, belive me...
