My mom is at the ER - worried
This morning at 5 am my mom fell out from the bed and hit her head.
Nothing seriously apparently. Just a small scar above the nose and 4 stiches.
The problem is that my mother is on anti-coagulants and any minor scar/bruise can turn into a serious issue, especially in the area of the head.
They made x-rays and a ct scan at 9 am this morning and everything turned out fine. Also blood tests were OK and the ECG showed nothing serious.
However, for 24 hours she must be kept under monitoring as the scar may begin to bleed internally and this is quite dangerous in the head area.
11 hours have already gone by and so far so good.
Tomorrow morning they will do another CT scan to check if there's any internal bleeding. If everything's fine she will be sent home.
Today the ER was full of patients with neurological issues. All rooms were crowded and my mom was placed in the corridor.... I had to give her lunch among a trashbin and a coatstand with doctors, nurses and other patients who walked by continuously.
I then came to work and left her with my dad. He just called (it's almost 4 pm) and told me that finally they found a bed in a normal room for her. At least she can sleep a bit tonight....
Please pray that no bleeding occurs...it would be a bad thing for her....
Thank you for listening my friends

Keep us posted Ivy. I'm sure she will be fine.
I understand about the waiting around in corridors, I spent the afternoon in ER yesterday and my husband commented about all the patients left in
the corridors waiting for beds.

I am so sorry to hear this, Ivy. I hope your Mom doesn't have any repercussions from this.
Remember last winter when my Mom was visiting me? She fell on her face while taking a walk and cut her eyebrow open. She is on anti-coagulants, also. She had 5 stitches and healed up very quickly! I was amazed.
I hope your mother experiences the same fast recovery. Maybe the anti-coagulants allow the blood to flow to wounds in a more efficient way? And in that way, bring along the body's healing properties much faster!

Crossed fingers for your Mom Ivy - I have a feeling she's gonna be just fine.
Lost of hugs for you, too as you must be very rattled by all this, I'm sure.
more hugs, Risa

Re: My mom is at the ER - worried
She came home on Saturday afternoon. The second CT scan was fine.
The general health situation is not encouraging. She's got Alzheimer, serious heart issues and a bad ostheoporosis.
With the Alzheimer she's doing fine. She was diagnosed at the very early stage and thanks to the latest cures she's almost normal. Sometimes she gets disoriented, it happens in places that she doesn't know, but her short term memory still works and she still recognizes everyone and perfectly knows what's going on around her.
Her heart is weak and is not working 100%. The blood thinners help, but she can have an attack at any minute.
She's positive, anyway and this will help her to carry on.
For Mother's Day I gave her a portable lamp for the night instead of flowers. She was amused by that and agreed that it was a better gift in this moment
Thanks everyone for your support, I appreciated it!
