Update from Holly...
Hi all....
It's been a few months since I have been here --- Since we "spoke" last, I have had a mild heart attack, and had my blood pressure go basically crazy on me (I'm under treatment for it)---
But the main news is (afraid to type this) it's been more than a year since I had a migraine. More than a year since I took a triptan... I literally went from a daily triptan to none at all... I wish to God I could tell you why...
Last January, I turned 60 years old --- have I "out-grown" them? The doctors, of course, don't have a clue... either about why they showed up in my thirties, or why they seemed to have disappeared.
My health problems are my ongoing back problems, and the afore-mentioned BP issues....
I haven't been posting, but I do read, and try to keep up --- I still consider myself a "migraineur" - I do still have "headaches" but they can be controlled with aspirin... I know, amazing, isn't it???
I guess I wanted to post so that you all would know... there's hope? And that I still love and pray for you all.
Hang in there----
Blessings,
Holly

Holly, congrats on losing the migraines! We are all of course envious, but really happy for you.
Do take care of the heart though. You need that.

Holly,
That is amazing news! I am so glad you came back to the forum to share the news - it is always good to get a little hope and optimism around here. Sometimes it's hard to believe that we can ever get better and I am always so grateful to hear that it is indeed possible.
I'm sorry to hear about your vascular problems. Best of luck to you in managing that.

Holly that is wonderful news on the migrianes! I am heading your way in the age department and knowing that there still may be hope gives me something to hold on to. I have heard around 60 is sometimes the key.
I am sorry to hear about the heart attack. I take a "water pill" to help with the blood pressure and it really has helped.
Thanks for the update and glad the headaches are under control.

Re: Update from Holly...
Just wondering - Did the migraines disappear around the time you started medication for high blood pressure? Sometimes those meds are prescribed for migraines.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Update from Holly...
No, I had taken different kinds of BP meds in the past, trying to control the M's... but, I did have to begin taking more just before the M's faded away - the dr. had put me on 240 mgs of Verapamil.
After my heart scare, they told me to buy a meter and take my own bp three times a day.. I am still doing that, and I have found that my bp peaks in the evening. The heart dr. now has me on 360 mgs of Verapamil, and 10 mgs. of Lisinopril a day, but still getting the evening spikes.
But no Migraines .... might have been the bp meds that finally got to the level that would help me. I have asked the docs, but they don't seem to have a clue about that... I am on my way back to see him about the continuing bp spikes in the evening (next week)...
love to all,
Holly

wonderful
HI Holly,
Renee, a.k.a. Casey, here. I haven't been back to this forum in well over a year, and the first thing I read was your post, and I despite your other very significant health problems, I am overjoyed at your absence of migraines! Not only are you free of migraine, you needn't battle for triptans, beg, overpay, argue with pharmacists or doctors. Wonderful, wonderful. I'm so happy for you!!!!! Did it just all happen at once, or...?
Regarding hearth health, it may not miraculously reduce your BP, but the best overall supplement for a strong heart is Hawthorne berry, and it is extremely mild. Lots of info online about it, too.
Many big hugs, and I am glad you keep us updated.

Re: Update from Holly...
Hi Renee!
Yes, it happened all at once... I went from daily triptans (one or two) to none at all the next day! And you are right about it being great not to have to beg for triptans- I was having to fight Medicaid to get 12 a month, and begging my dr. for more (he didn't always have any for me... ) It was such a struggle to get my meds....
It makes me so angry that we collectively can't get the meds we need... like Anna and the Ketamine- not only are we ill, but the stress of fighting for meds makes it worse.
Praise God that "right now" I am getting all I need... I don't count on that to last, though. I take pain meds for my back- if something happened to my prescribing doctor, I MIGHT have a problem....
Thanks for the info about the hawthorne berry - I will look into that!
loveya,
Holly

Holly dear, it is a miracle for you. I'm so happy. Hard to believe all those past struggles are just a memory. Hoping and praying it lasts and lasts. And that your back pain gets better also. Such good news!

Holly,
Just read your post and wanted you to know how happy for you I am. A year without migraines sounds like heaven, despite your ongoing back and BP issues.
Praying that your back and BP issues subside. Take care and thanks for letting us know how you're doing. It gives us hope.

Oh Holly, I couldn't be happier for you with the lack of migraines. It gives me hope for the future. I'm just hanging in there hoping they get better some day. I am sorry you're still having so much trouble with your back. I hope you are able to find help for that soon too. Sooo good to hear from you. Don't be a stranger.
