jaw pain with migraine

Does anyone else get bad jaw pain along with migraines? If so, I'm curious to know how you and your doctor have treated the pain. Even when I get some parts of my migraine under control, the jaw pain seems to never go away. Most neurologists don't seem to believe in tmj syndrome either and apparently there's no real cure for tmj. It's incredibly frustrating!

My left jaw clicks loudly and does sometimes ache during a migraine. I fell off my bike as a kid, face first. I looked into TMJ and there is nothing conclusive you can do that would make a difference.

I treat it as part of the package now when I have migraines, just as neck stiffness from all the tension because I am in pain. On it's own with NSAID since it is an inflamed condition.

What I mean to say about 'the package' is I take the abortive and painkiller, (for myself Imitrex and Toradol (a NSAID)) and then a muscle relaxant (Ativan or Robacsaset) by the end of the day to release all the neck and jaw tension so I can sleep and hopefully it will be gone the next day.

Well, with the Botox, my doctor injects it in the jaw area. She said that I don't seem to have tMJ, but it was something we looked into. She also puts it in the occipitals, back of neck and shoulders, and it does relieve tension there. I do have jaw pain. I can't chew gum, or tough steak without a problem. It is more a tension or soreness. With the botox it is relieved, but if I do a lot of chewing other muscles are affected and I have the soreness.

I've had Chiropracters say they can cure TMJ. One kept trying to realign my jaw, but I can't say it made any difference. My jaw clicks when I chew, but it never seems to hurt. I think they can also break your jaw and reset it to treat TMJ, but that really does not sound appealing to me.

read the post titled Is botox helpful by Mini. let me know what you think. it states that botox can make headaches worse in 1 in 10 people. i give up. what do we believe. more later.
