Migraine Pain!!! Please Help!!!!

Hi,

I have been suffering with migraine headache for the last 15 years, i get it once in every 18-24 months. I tried to co-relate but did not find any thing.
When i get this, i can not handle the pain. One thing i noticed is when i get this my right nostril gets closed completely and my right eye will keep watering and the right side of my eye will get the shooting pain. I tried using all the pain killers but nothing worked. I will know 10min before that the paing is coming and tried to take the pain killers but they do not work. I talked to my doctor also he prescribed some pain killers which did not help.

I was thinking it could be whether, but sometimes i get it in winter and some times i get it in summer.. not sure what is the root cause.

This time when i had migraine, just before that i had bad cold for couple of weeks not sure if there was still flem in my body and that have caused this pain. (just tryingto see what could have triggered this migraine).

I tried to take hot vapours and put the warm-hot wet cloth on my eye that could give some relaxation.

Is there any treatment for this?

Any help could be greatly appreciated.

I am very sorry about your pain.
From the way you describe it, it sounds like you are suffering from cluster headaches.
This is a form of migraine, and men get it more often then women (women get more of classic migraines).

You best course of action is to look for a neurologist, but he must be someone who specialise in migraine, make sure about that as many neurologist know nothing about migriane, or clusters. Ask your GP, or search on the net for a good neurolgist in your area.

Have you ever been prescribed Imitrex?
It can be very helpful for some cluster sufferers, but it must be prescribed by a docotr if you are in US, in UK you can buy it at the chemist.

The symptoms you are describing there is exactly the type of headache they call ''cluster headache'' and the drugs used for migraine very rarely work for them. I get both types of headache and a cluster is an absolute s**t to get rid of so I sympathise with you and your struggle. There are message boards out there on the internet that are for cluster headache only, so you may find more tailored advice for you from them.

Or maybe do a search on cluster headache on this forum and someone may have posted advice previously.

I have a friend who gets cluster headaches, sounds like what you describe.

He uses oxygen when they hit.

See a neurologist or specialist, they will be familar with this.

Acupuncture around points on the face can help drain the nostrils. Its quite a weird feeling but you'll feel "stuff" draining down the back of your throat while the needles are in. I've never had it in association with a migraine but its really helped me when I have a bad flu and all my sinuses are blocked up.

yes it definitely sounds like cluster headache or the suicide headache as it is known, occipital nerve block injs help with that, are you under a neurologist??

I live in UK, and today on the news we were shown an opertion to install the brain stimulator into man's head. in order to stop unbearable cluster headaches, which he suffered for years.
This operation helped him to reduce those cluster headaches to an amazing degree, and he only sufferend with it once in several month.

Mine were first diagnosed as "cluster migraines" some 30 years ago, but with the help of the modern internet I have found that the barometric pressure can change a good bit for a few days and then go a week or two with little change making it look like clusters. IT COULD STILL BE CLUSTER, but keep an open mind. The site that helped me determine mine was weather underground. Although you really should see a good headache doctor first and foremost as there are many things it could be!
