Experiences with Toradol
Hi folks~
After having a very bad stretch of two weeks, culminating is a vicious severe migraine last Thursday into Friday, I went to urgent care and got my first Toradol shot (60mg)(w/a 5mg Reglan shot too)
Amazingly, it's the first thing I've ever been given that's broken such a severe migraine. It took about two hours to feel any relief ( from a 10 down to a 5) and the bad two week cycle seemed to break by that night. Things have been better since then, minus having to take Midrin today due to head starting to hurt while exercising this afternoon.
Anyway, I have read that some migraineurs have Toradol shots as part of the at-home arsenal as well as getting them at the Drs. I would like to hear more about your experiences so I can know more about this when I see my Headache Specialist next month.
I know the drug is rough on the kidneys, so I'd like to know how often you get the shots or use them at home. Does it become less effective over time? Also, is there something better than Reglan to get with Toradol for nausea?
Thanks for sharing anything you can.
Peace,
Jane

I used to have toradol shots at home, but now my neuro thinks it's too strong or I will use too much and damage my kidneys. I have had phenergan with it (instead of reglan).

Re: Experiences with Toradol
Hi Jane,
I'm allowed four injections a month, no more than two in a one week period. The vials are 60 mg/ 2 ml. My neuro started prescribing it for me about five years ago to keep me out of the ER. For the most part it does the trick.
My niece, who is a nurse, taught hubby to do the injections. I've had staff teach themselves off the Internet how to do it ( hubby wasn't available). I kniw some can give themselves injections, I'm not one if them! My hand hovers about 1/2 in. above the skin.
I use zofran for nausea.
Good luck! It really is a lifesaver!

Torodal is my go to drug when nothing else works. However I don't have it at home; I have to go the the office or ER to get a shot. Every trip to the hospital is $100.00, but it really works when I'm out of options.

Toradol works for me as well with a severe migraine. When I went to the er they gave me a combo of toradol, benadryl & phenergran. My nuero prescribed me 1 toradol injection to use at home. Fortunately, I haven't had to use it yet. I am also not trained to give the intermuscular injections yet.

Toradol works somewhat for me...I get 60mg with reglan or visteral. I usually get IV fluids also. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just takes the edge off and I need something stronger.
