My Botox Coverage Has Been Approved!
I'm so happy.
As many of you know, botox has been the drug that makes my life worth living. It's not a miracle cure, but from week 3-8 after injections I can function.
I still suffer badly, but botox pulls me from pain that makes me want to die.
It was covered for me before...but then my insurance just stopped covering it one day. So I went off of it and suffered very badly.
We appealed the coverage, and today they approved it!
It's not perfect, as I need 200 units and it says it will cover 100 units, but it is still better then nothing.
This is very good news for me!

Re: My Botox Coverage Has Been Approved!
I called the insurance company today, as the wording in the letter implied I was only covered for 100 units and by pain specialist has ordered 200 units.
They actually said 200 would be fine! I have never tried 200 because it is almost 400 bucks per 100 units plus another 100 bucks for the injection fee.
Now I will get 80% coverage, and no injection fee, as my pain specialist does not charge.
I actually think I have 100% coverage, so I may get it all back. I am almost positive that I will see a great improvement with the increased dosage. I'm getting it done again on the 5th...so we will see.

Hi
I didn't know Botox could be covered. I wonder if it is in Canada? I am happy for you Milo!!

I'm in Canada.
It was covered for quite a while, then Health Canada removed migraines from the monograph so my insurance stopped covering it so I was paying for it, but I appealed and now it will be covered again.

Milo
About 3 years ago approx. I saw a neurologist regarding Botox. He said it would cost me about $600.00 each time. Not covered. I didn't get it. I better look into this and see what the status is on coverage. Thanks Milo.

Re: My Botox Coverage Has Been Approved!
I had it for awhile when my insurance covered with some success, but had to stop when my insurance quit covering it. Just to expensive to do on my own.
I'm so happy for you! You needed some good news.

Gail, it's my work insurance that covers it.
I've been successful at getting some patients covered if they are on disability through the government as well.

Re: My Botox Coverage Has Been Approved!
Went to the evil but genius pain specialist today for my injections. I had six or eight facet blocks and 200 units of botox.
This is the first time I've had 200 units. He hit a heck of a lot more muscles then usual. The facet injections are so painful I can't even really think about them. SOOOOO bad! I think I screamed a few times and had make-up all over my face from my eyes tearing up.
I told him I was petrified before he started so he gave me an ativan and lidocaine cream to apply while I wait.
As a kind gesture mid torture session, he asked if I wanted to get rid of a few wrinkles while he was at it...lol....so we did.
I'm really hoping this new trial will work. I'd love to be off of my pain meds soon.

I really disliked the botox injections. There's so little fat on my forehead it feels like their injecting right into the bone.
Plus I couldn't stand the sound! Shiver
Great for the two fer with wrinkles!

Well....fingers crossed but I think the increased dose and addition of more facet blocks is helping. It's early days but I feel a great improvement this time!!!!!!!!
I've been around two different purfumes and have not triggered my head yet. Wow. Yesterday I still needed the pain med, but not until about 7 PM. I usually take my first around noon.
I'm feeling very optimistic today.

Still needing pain meds but it's early days.
I managed a 10k walk yesterday and did a very hard work out at the gym today, without triggering a migraine. I have a headache right now, but no migraine. SWEET!!!!!
My face feels like it has freezing in it like you get when you go to the dentist. I've felt it before, but much more with the increased dose.

chronic migraines
Hi, this is the first time I've been here. I have daily migraines and have yet to find anything to help me. My insurance company (BCBS) has turned me down, but my doctor is sending the another letter. I have neck pain also which isn't helping the migraines any. Right now I take fioricet and zanflex for my migraines and neck pain. I try not to take fioricet more then 3-4 times a week, because I don't want to become addicted to it. I have read some about migraine surgery, but insurance doesn't cover that either. I was just reading up on what helps some of you. So glad I found this website.
Blessings,
Cindy

Re: My Botox Coverage Has Been Approved!
Hi Cindy, welcome. Is fioricet tecnal? If it is, I used to take it but couldn't tolerate the constipation so I switched back to emtecs.
I am very happy to say I did not need any pain meds today. I had a coughing fit late in the evening tonight that caused some pain, so I did take one of my emtecs. I took this for two reasons:
1) the pain
2) to prevent withdrawal. I've been on codeine now for a long time (at least six months now) and I will have to do a short taper to prevent any withdrawal symptoms. I'd hate to trigger my head and have to start all over.
If I can manage tomorrow, I'll just take half of one.
It's been nice and hot here, and I have a hike planned for tomorrow to celebrate my third year wedding anniversary. Let's hope I can pull it off without too much pain.

Migraines
Hi Milo, Praying you have a pain free day today and you will be able to enjoy your hike. We love to hike and bike here in Tennessee. I went for a four mile walk last night, with a migraine but none the less I did it. Everyone ask how in the world do you get out and do anything with a migraine, what they don't get is this is my life, I've had migraines for so long that I can't let it take my life away from me. There are times my migraines knock my feet right out from under me. I have a high tolerance to pain thankfully. I guess after dealing with seizures, migraines, then brain surgery, it's just made me a very strong person. I want so much out of life and I'm not going to let my migraines rob me of my joy! That sounds pretty good, LOL I hope I can keep this attitude up forever!
Blessings~ Cindy
