Count down to wedding........will I be ready?
Things are beginning to mount up. Venting to follow.
We leave for the wedding in Michigan a week from this morning. My future DIL's grandmother died day before yesterday.
We were supposed to make jam for the favors. I have strawberries ready but I am afraid they will have to be frozen because I don't t hink I can do it all by myself.
I still need to hem all the bride's maid dresses and I have one girl that is SUPPOSED to show up tonight for a final fitting. She has been a no-show three times. I also have to hem the groom's pants. I'll do that tonight.
I HAVE to make my dress today. Ihave been having a lot of problems with my hands the past few weeks. By the time I get the stiffness worked out so I can handle scissors it is time I have to do other things. I work twelves the next three days so today is it!
After the wedding I am worried sick about work. We have someone that took off for a month unexpectedly. Now I am scheduled for six 12 hour night shifts in a row. I don't sleep when I am on nights. Four is about all I can handle. I will have 72 hours off btween four 12 hour days and 6 12 hour nights.
I know, I am making this all worse than it is. Time to calm down and get to work!
Thanks for letting me vent!

Re: Count down to wedding........will I be ready?
Survivor,
You can do it.
Prioritize. Get your dress done (you can't go naked...well you could but your future DIL would probably die ). If the maid doesn't show up, her dress gets hemmed with safety pins day of (or you could torture her with straight pins ) and that's the consequences for not showing up when she's supposed to. Once or twice - things do happen but beyond that you make it a priority for your friend. The boys - sounds like you've got them done.
Favors. Those should be last on your list. Personally, when I go to a wedding, I don't usually take mine - just doesn't occur to me.
Deep breath and we are all pulling for you. Hope the work situation works itself out so it isn't as bad as you are anticipating.

Re: Count down to wedding........will I be ready?
Thanks, Becky. I have a list for today and am crossing stuff off as I go.
My sister is coming to press for me as I sew. That will make things a lot faster.
Right now I am waiting on my son that works second shift to get up before I start up my serger. I need it next. Pinning my dress while I wait. I want my sister here to measure skirt length for me. It is a floor length dress but now I am shortening it because her mom changed her mind after I bought the pattern.

Glad you have a list.
Sounds like you have a sewwer sister. (I'm aware that I probably spelled sewwer wrong but "sewer sister" looks like someone that crawled out of the waste water system.) Always nice to have someone that knows what they are doing to help or can at least take direction.
Pressing is so crucial when you're sewing but it's also so putzy. Glad you have help. I know when my mom or I have large projects going we sew together just so one of us can man the iron while the other sews or someone to man the serger. And it is nice to have a second pair of hands to help with alterations - trying to self alter is tricky to say the least. If I could, I'd pop down to lend a hand too.
You're in my thoughts and I hope you are able to accomplish all that you have laid out today.

Oh Sweetie! Yikes!!! Sounds like you have good help and have thigns under control.
Okay, what's in the air? My future DIL's grandmother died two weeks ago.
All I have to do for the wedding is sew a couple things for the bride and grooms chairs at the head table.
One thing, survivor...vent to us ALL you want, it's necessary to let it out. But, my future DIL's mother is driving us all crazy being the martyr with "everything" she has to do. Okay, three times I've offered to bring my sewing machine up to her house and sew until we get the runner's done. Three times she has turned me down. So, from my end, I want her to quit her belly achin' about how frazzled she is. Either take the help or shut up!
So, I guess that was my vent!

Hang in there! It will all work out in the end. Having someone to help sew is will take a bit of pressure off. Take lots of deep breaths and do what you can. I'd work on the dresses and let the jam wait. It's better to be well clothed for the event than having jam. Is there someone else you can pass that on to?
I hope that you manage to get a bit more sleep in and have lots of energy to get you through.

UPDATE:
Taking a break to eat a bite.
Bride's maid dresses are all hemmed and pressed. My dress is cut out and partially made.
Have basket liner done for cards. Cleaned and marked all the jars.
The kids are getting married here.
www.bluedressbarn.com
It is a nice venue for them but the people will nickel and dime you to death! DIL wanted to use blue mason jars w/ flowers for center pieces. The venue charges $5/jar to rent them. I said, "No problem. How many do you want?" Problem is they needed cleaned and marked because part of them were my sisters. That is done and they are boxed.
Due to the death of her grandmother she is leaving tomorrow and won't come back before the wedding.
Things look better than this morning. It has rained all afternoon. I am sure that is part of my problem. Oh, and I have a tooth that was bothering me in Dec/Jan. got it cleared up but it came back yesterday w/a vengence. Fortunately the endodontist is working me in Monday because they want to be able to start me on steroids and/or antibiotics so I'll feel good for the wedding.
Thanks for the support.
I knew you all would understand.
Back to the sewing room. I am actually enjoying making my dress. My sister helped because she looked at the pattern and said, "There is no way I would even attempt this." Makes me feel like I can do SOMETHING.
