Loosing Hope
Hi,
I am 20 years old and have had migraines and daily headaches since I was 13. For a few years it was two times a year for a whole month I would be out. In the hospital for a week full of pain killers, which brought me to the ICU for not being able to find a pulse. I literally was unable to get out of bed or eat. Doctors started to wonder if it was more than migraines because I did not have the "normal" symptoms. When I turned 16 I began developing pseudoseizures along with the migraines become more frequent. About two years, I have been having seizures at least every night and not even related to pain.
I have tried every type of medication, DHE, botox, psychologist, etc. I personally think it is too many meds, to the point it is not healthy. None of it has worked. I am lucky enough to go to Mayo Pain Clinic in a few months. This is literally my last resort.
My nuclear family has left me. All they will provide is health insurance and paying for medical bills. At this point I think I need some support system.
The community college wont help me because I go in and out of the hospital, unable to read all the time, and had a seizure in class, and this is with an IEP already in place.
I have been working on and off, but not enough to support myself.
I am Catholic, but do not feel like part of the church because I can not go every week (mostly unable to drive) and can not commit to be involved.
Basically all my friends have dumped me because they do not believe how bad the condition is and I end up bailing half of the time.
That is my story summed up and looking for any advice I can get because I really do not know what else to do.
How do you make it through the day?
Any one able to get through college even with the migraines?
etc.
Anything would help and I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Loosing Hope
we are not doctors here, and can only share our journeys with migraine and related disorders.
to a layperson, too many meds sounds like the truth. but something is causing your extreme symptoms and distress, and i doubt that a med started the whole thing at age 13, right?
the mayo clinic is wonderful for certain diseases but pain clinics tend to be drugs drugs and more drugs. it sounds to me that what you need is a neurologist who CARES enough to do the testing necessary to find out what's really going on with your body. most of us on this forum have consulted many more than one in our search for answers. if you are able to get some recommendations for your area, please do. (you can ask on this forum).
OF COURSE you need a support system. a physical one would be best, but we are pretty good, here, at caring and sharing. personally, i could not have made it through my 45 years of migraine without meetings from time to time, and this wonderful forum for the past 17 years. keep reading, and know that although we are not professionals, we get the pain part all too well. good fortune! dianne

"I am Catholic, but do not feel like part of the church because I can not go every week (mostly unable to drive) and can not commit to be involved."
Remember what St Thomas said, in the Gnostic Gospels, "Heaven is all around us, we just don't see it." And with pain, I am sure that makes it even more difficult to see that heaven is around us.
As for schooling, are there any internet classes that you can take? If so, then on your good days, you can do your studying.
