Drug Seeker Video

Post  Anna's Mom on Tue Jan 19, 2010 11:03 pm

I found this on a medical blog. A drug seeker on a YouTube video--it's a cartoon--seeking drugs for fake seizures and migraine:

I have to admit it made me smile when she faked the seizure, but it is so frustrating there are people faking it and ruining it for the people who are truly in unbelievable pain and need the help.

I smiled at the dance part, but the rest made me sad. I really cant take NSAIDS and several other drugs they love to give instead of narcotics. I am sure until they look at my chart they think I am the drug seeker stereotype! Unfortunatly, only narcotics and anti-nausea meds work for me. I have to get into a long, deep sleep to break the cycle (it helps to tell them that). I dread the ER more than anything else.
Hugs,
Cindy

Curious, what have they given you in ER to break your cycle? I'm going on about 10 days and nothing seems to break it, toradol shots, other various pain/migraine meds they have had me try...

I have tried almost everything except DHE type cocktails. My Dr. said I should not use those. The only thing that works for me is Best: Demoral and Phenergan Pretty good:Dilaudid and Phenergan Not as good, but OK:Morphine and Phenergan. I think the reason Demoral works so well (in IV or IM) is that it puts me in a deeper sleep and lasts all night. The bad part is that I am out of it the whole next day and cant drive or do anything requiring attention. I do feel well rested by the next day though! I have had a hard time getting them to give Demoral over the last 2 years, though.

I was sitting in the pharmacy today, waiting for a script to be filled. They had some books for sale next to the chairs. I picked up "The Migraine Brain" and was paging through it. The author did a pretty good job describing what going to the ER can be like and gave some helpful suggestions for going in.

Drug Seeker Video

Post  Cindy*W on Thu Jan 21, 2010 4:27 am

Cheryl,

That was a cute video. Thanks for sharing it. It is so sad that drug seekers make it so difficult for us that really need pain relief.

Our hospital calls a certain percentage of the ER and hospital patients and asks how satisfied you were with your hospital or ER visit. They have been doing this for awhile now and I have noticed a big difference in how I get treated there.

I guess the last time I was there was about 3 months ago and they just couldn't do enough for me. It was really refreshing.

They asked me what worked for me and didn't question me at all. They even asked me to please come back in if what they gave me didn't work for my pain.

What a difference! Last year all they wanted to give me was toradol so I had to insist on talking to the head of the ER since he is aware of my situation and has talked to my doctor about it. He suggested that I see the new pain specialist in town.

I promised him that I would but when my doctor sent my file over to the specialist, he called me and told me he had pulled my file (I had seen the previous doctor in their clinic two years ago, who has since left town) and he probably had nothing more to offer than the previous doctor did. All he offered me was Methadone.

Anyway, at least I can go to the ER when things get too bad and won't have to be treated badly. That is, when I can afford the 150.00 it costs me to go.

Thanks for posting the video.

Loved the dance. SO much on it was exactly the stuff Dr. Grumpy complains about.

The only thing that breaks a M for me in the ER is Nubain and phenegan. But, it's a toss of the dice as to whether I get it or not. SO often they just want to push Toradol, even after I explain to them that I've taken the Toradol injection at home and am in the ER because it didn't work!

frustrating.
