Headache Specialist or Local Neuro.?
One more question....sorry I'm having a bad week and have no one who knows what I'm talking about. I went to my PCP for something else last week, and I think I scared her. The fact is, compared to migraine auras I've had in the past, this is still somewhat incapacitating, but you know what this isn't too bad. But sometimes I start feeling pretty alone with the whole thing.
So the story goes I lived in NJ for several years, and saw about two neurologists long term there (over the period of five years). The first one didn't know what complicated migraines were but at least gave me good pain management, and the second after a year and a half wanted to test me more for seizures.
So I went back to a headache specialist I had seen in Baltimore, who had been part of my original diagnosis process. At that point I was getting five day migraines and couldn't stand the pain. Since then I have been doing better. I still get complicated auras, and it turns out one of the EEGs I had done with doctor #2 from NJ shows slowing in my brain waves, or my brain waves acting like they would if I was drunk . So I do indeed get confusional migraines.
So this doctor said he would be willing to work with me out of state when I moved to NC. It's going to be difficult for me to get up to see him, and more expensive of course.
So I've been thinking of getting a local neurologist in NC. The thing is...that sort of scares me. Even if not much more can be done right now, it's at least reassuring having a doctor who knows more about my weird auras than I do.
So I guess I'm asking, do you all travel to see your headache specialists?
Also, do you see someone local too, so they can kind of work together, or do you just see the one doctor out of state?

Re: Headache Specialist or Local Neuro.?
I have no idea what would I do. I guess, the main question is - what is more important to you, a good pain management or having a good specialist who might not necessarily gave you all the pain meds but who is able
to Dx you correctly.
I guess at the beginning it would be better to have a correct Dx, because with it in hand you can sort of move onto any neuro, no? I dunno, just musing..
