Is anyone in Tucson? Do you have a neurologist you recommend and why? Thanks!

I'm not in Tucson, but if you want to make the drive, I have a wonderful neuro in the south part of the Phoenix metro area.

Honestly, my main abortives are Norco and Indocin (capsules and suppositories), only because I can't take triptans. I have been on lortab, fioricet, toradol shots, DHE shots, migranal, ultracet, and on and on.

Their practice includes an acupuncturist/natrualpath plus nurse practioners, physician assistants, MDs, and a psychologist.

They can do spinal taps on site, along with IV treatments to break headaches.

I have been a patient there since January of 2004 or 2005. I went to the Diamond Heache Clinic while still a patient of Foothills Neurology, and they were cool with that, they respected that I needed to seek all possible treatments, and worked with the Diamond doctor's plan until I decided to ditch Diamond. I value the relationship I have with Foothills.

I see mostly Robin Adamson. She is a Physician assistant, and now there is a new MD on staff named Dr Joy. I just met him this week. I think he is going to be a great addition to the practice.

Dr. Fechtel does the spinal taps. Dr Visser does the acupuncture.

They have no problem prescribing the pain relieving meds that work best for me. They understand my pain levels and chronic state and often apologize for not being able to do more for me. They are very compassionate. Their phone staff asks relevent questions when I call in for help during rougher-than-usual pain bouts.

Thanks! I will check my insurance. I've had migraines for 30 years, but am not familiar with the purpose of a spinal tap in regards to migraines. I've read some about it on this site. Why do them do them on a migraine patient? ann

In my case a spinal tap is what diagnosed high intracranial pressure (pseudo tumor cerebri) which was the most likely cause of the headaches. It can be used to rule out and/or diagnose many things.
