The Migraine Surgery
So, I'm off of work this week, and managed to watch a daytime TV show called the Doctors. They had a whole segment on a facelift surgery that "cures" migraines.
It's a forehead lift I think, and works best on people like me, who's migraines respond well to botox treatments.
Anyone know anything about this? I'll be asking my HA specialist about it in January when I go for botox, but I hope to find more info before then.

Re: The Migraine Surgery
My Mom saw the same show and got all excited. And I could use a nice facelift! LOL
I too am very interested in learning about this before I see my doctor on Monday.

Oh, yeah, it was disscussed a few times on old Ronda's. You may still have time to dig up those discussions.
If you Google, there is plenty of links popping up about this surgery.
Yeah, I would love to have it done under medical coverage

Re: The Migraine Surgery
I'm so serious about getting rid of these migraines that I am trying to figure out how much I can afford to pay for this surgery.
I already pay over five thousand a year on my botox and other stuff not covered, so I think paying for it may be worth it.
Any idea what something like this would cost?
I'm desperate.

Re: The Migraine Surgery
No Richard, if we are talking about the same thing and we probably are it's simply a face lift:
http://www.impactlab.com/2009/07/31/facelift-could-end-misery-of-migraines/
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1203355/Could-facelift-end-migraines-One-hour-surgery-offers-hope-millions.html
You can simply put 'facelift migraine' into the address bar and things will pop up.
I remember the name of the dr who accidentally discovered the beneficial side of the facelift for M;
Bahman Guyuron
Simply speaking, the facelift would be working more or less as Botox, only "deeper".
It is not a cure, and not for everyone, unfortunately. Just as Botox is.

Re: The Migraine Surgery
Isn't this the same surgery that Ali is always talking about? That's the name of the doctor who he says stole his idea, isn't it?

Re: The Migraine Surgery
There are probably many plastic surgeons doing "migraine surgery" at this point, with different variations. Some insurance companies are covering the surgery--that is a fact.
Here's some info:

I hear of some success stories, but not enough to make me very enthused about it.

All I know is that a positive response to botox is an important factor, and the one thing I have going for me. lol

You are right, Milo! More encouraging if you have a good response to Botox.

Re: The Migraine Surgery
I've pretty much decided I will make a way to have this surgery happen for me, but of course, my scientific mind needs more data first. lol
I'm really hoping someone here in Canada is doing the surgery, and that it may be covered by my great extended medical, but I'll find a way even if it's not....that is...if it is the right surgery for me.

I'm in Canada!
If you find out it's covered in BC, please let me know- I will be zooming to the closest plastic facility!
