Migraine Aura Manifestations
I get migraine auras, but they have happened maybe only 3 or 4 times in my life so far (I am 47). The first time was when I was an exchange student at Gymnasium Rahlstedt in Hamburg in 1979. They did not know what it was. Actually I didn't know either until the 2000s. My sister gets them often too.
Anyway when they happen they are usually like I read about or see: flickering lights and things that look like cracked glass. I often thought it looked like a Ferris Wheel. They are usually somewhat pale or translucent.
Sunday when I was in the bathroom standing I lifted up my head and saw what looked like large orange fireflies, or those burning embers from bonfires that fly in the air, or orange comets or something, rather big (like 1/2 or 3/4" diameter) and there were about two or three of them. I haven't been able to recreate or see them again and they lasted less than a minute. I had actually put some lotion on a sore which instead of soothing it stung so I was in a bit of pain at the time.
Could this be a migraine aura? Anyone else have this experience? Or could it be something else? If so, what? Please don't tell me to go to an opthamalgist. He dialted the eyes and looked at all areas and siad they were fine, and almost acted as though I was wasting his time. I had called the nurse hotline who told me I needed to be seen that day, but since it was a Sunday I had to wait until Monday to get an appointment.
Any similar experiences?

My auras are pretty boring in the realm of auras. Mostly they're just little clear bubbles floating around.
Yesterday it was more like this but in bigger waves and larger blind spots.

If you didn't get a headache or other migraine symptoms, it probably wasn't an aura. I get sparkly lights and such when I stand up too fast or change the position of my head quickly. It's a slight sign of oxygen deprivation. Maybe it was something like that.

At the eye dr. yesterday he said a aura without headache is a "occular migraine"

Oh yes there are most assuredly just the aura without the head ache.
I have had. Sometimes I have had really painful head aches (I remember
once in 12th grade). Now I wonder whether it was a migraine?

I have basilar-type migraines. For years all I experienced were aura symptoms.........though for the past 18 months pain has been a fairly constant presence.

I sometimes get visual problems before a migraine but not always. I get little bright lights, and sometimes negative images. Also moving text, text I am looking at seems to wave. But most of the time I just get the migraine.
