migraine with sensory aura?
Iv had a weird few days. I have an illness and I was feeling pretty dehydrated the other day and had a headache. It got slightly better later in the day but then my right arm suddenly went all dead and numb, and i got tingling in my hand. I then had a few seconds where my legs seemed to go dead but they recovered. My arm was tingling for 24 hours ish and couldnt move it much. My right leg then went dead and i couldnt move it and then i got tingling in my foot. But it didnt last long. It was a really weird scary sensation and i felt a bit light headed and like a wave had swept over me.
My GP sent me to the hospital. I saw a neurologist (eventually!!) and he said he thought it was a migraine with sensory aura plus overlying functional weakness aparently. After seeing him i got really bad light sensitivity, the lights all seemed so bright and i had to cover my eyes.
Has anyone else had/heard of anything like this? I seem better now, although my right hand is still slightly tingly but i can use it now.
my mum always suffered from bad migraines especially when she was my age-ish. but she never had sensory symptoms.
I did get a really bad headache the last time i took the oral contraceptive pill and my gp had said not to take it again.

Re: migraine with sensory aura?
Did you get any brain scans done at the hospital, since you have never had these symptoms before?

Re: migraine with sensory aura?
I have never had symptoms like that and don't have any suggestions.
Just wanted to say I am sorry that you have to deal with these symptoms plus your pain.
Hope you find an answer soon.
Keep looking til you get one.

Re: migraine with sensory aura?
I get numbness. Usually only left side of body and starts in left hand and slowly progresses over 30 minutes up arm to neck and mouth and head. The last time after numbness it felt as the affected areas were on fire. My migraines have changed over the years. First was when I was 12. Would get just an aura that lasted an hour or so. Would sometimes get it twice a day. No headache.
Trigger was skipping meals and playing sports or activity. They lessened in how many I got as I got older and didn't skip meals.
In my twenties is when I started getting confused and numb. Stroke like stuff. But only got them every few years from skipping breakfast. Then a few years ago I got 3-4 in two weeks all from playing basketball even though I was eating.
I then went to mayo clinic. I was diagnosed with persistent migraine aura without infarction. I haven't played basketball since. I am in my early thirties now. Last spring I skipped breakfast and all of a sudden. No warning.which I typically get a blind spot to signal an aura coming, my arms were moving but I wasn't moving them it felt like.
My left arm looked extremely long. And aura and numbness lasted for hours. Had to go to ER to break it. I then went back to neurologist and have been on notriptyline for half a year or so. No majors auras but daily low grade aura still the same.
