Verapamil Experiences?
Saw a new neuro today that I really liked. He LISTENED to my concerns about Topamax and feels that I might do well on Verapamil. I had an ECG and he just called with the results and I am good to go. I still have a lot of research to do before I start taking it but I am seriously considering it.
Does anyone have any experiences (good or bad) with it? I would love to know about efficacy as well as side effects. I get very nervous about things that impair thinking as well as weight gain.
Thanks!

I did try verapamil. It did not work for me, but no negative side effects either.
You might as well give it a try.

I've used it. I tapered myself of it a year ago, during an exceptionally long good spell, but never took very much of it in the first place. I really didn't notice any side effects from it, good or bad from it; it helped with the stress and tension triggers by stopping my BP from spiking and sending me over the migraine edge.
If they want you to try it at 40 mg, I'd like to offer advice for your budget. In the US, the 80 mg tablets are a $4 fill at Target (probably anywhere with a $4 list). I had my script written to take 1/2 an 80 mg tablet, so I could get it for $4, rather than the $15 that my generic copay was at that time.

Re: Verapamil Experiences?
Its definitely one of the milder meds as far as side effect potential. I didn't have any side effects. It also didn't help me, but none of the preventatives have so far. I don't think its likely to cause weight gain or memory issues, such as can happen especially with certain anti seizure meds. Everyone responds differently to different meds & classes. Some specific types of headaches do better with certain classes. I think its a good med to try. Hopefully you find it helpful. Best wishes.

Thanks everyone. Sara, I am in Canada and have a good drug plan so cost isn't an issue for me thankfully.
I've done a lot of reading tonight and can't find anything that makes me nervous. That's good news and I think I'm going to give it a try. Migrainegirl you're right, what do I have to lose? Thx.
