New prodrome symptoms
I have been destroyed by a migraine for two days now, three if you count the whole 'prelude'. I haven't had one like this in a long time (for me), probably a good month has gone by with just headaches and VERY mild migraine episodes. (Generally, I didn't even need painkillers.) So that's made these past few days feel like a complete nightmare. And to boot, this migraine is BAD with almost constant nausea and pain that I can't seem to stop. I've tried everything...abortives did nothing. I have increasingly upped the strength of the pain meds to the strongest I have tonight and even that isn't killing the pain completely. And I feel so GROSS. Tired, achy, depressed, slow, clumsy, irritable, totally miserable.
It has been interesting though. I have had chronic migraines for almost six years and while they were better on Topamax, I was dealing with all of those side effects instead. I left a very high-stress job in October and since then, I've gotten better and I think I've reverted back to episodic (yay!!!). So this time, I have been much more aware of the changes in my body. On Wednesday, I had a really bad day. I was super irritable and the smallest decisions were very hard to make. Even at work today (yes, I somehow worked through this) I was catching small, stupid mistakes I'd made on Wednesday. I was also ridiculously clumsy. I dropped more than a few things at work. It got so bad in fact that a bottle I was showing a customer fell out of my hand as I was passing it to her and I basically threw it at her. Yikes. Thankfully, she laughed with me. I also had crazy diarreah (sp?). I know that's gross, but it was really bad.
Suffice it to say that by the time I got home from work, I was certain that a migraine was coming. I've never had that kind of certainty before but the changes in my body were so dramatic it was a no-brainer. I took an abortive (which clearly, did absolutely nothing) and went to bed.
I can't figure out why this happened (triggers, etc.) A pretty big shift in weather is happening tonight (it got really cold again) but it doesn't seem big ENOUGH to make me THIS sick. I think this might be a great time to start a journal again. I'm going to document everything and see if there are new triggers I can find. All the time my migraines were chronic, I found it so difficult to pinpoint anything. Maybe now I can figure it out?
Will keep you posted.

It got worse
Here we are, day six and very limited relief for me. Yesterday was the worst...nausea, vomiting and almost intolerable pain. Nothing is working or helping right now.
Any recommendations/thoughts on how I might be able to get to the end of this thing? The weather is certainly not helping. It snowed, then the temperature dropped 10 degrees, now it's gone back up almost 15 degrees...and it's going to drop again tomorrow. I have thought about going to the ER to see if they can help abort this thing but I don't want to sit there for hours on end feeling like this. I also don't know if they can really help.
Here's what I've tried so far:
- lots of sleep in a dark room
- (too many) painkillers
- Frova (didn't work and it's all I have at home right now)
- Ice
- Aromatherapy
Any ideas are appreciated, thanks.
