Neurontin/Gabapentin
Anyone have any luck with neurontin/gabapentin as a migraine preventative? I'm taking it to prevent nerve inflammation in my neck due to narrowing of the space between vertebrae. Haven't had a migraine since I started on it. I'm taking 300 mg 3x per day. It took about three weeks to get used to it----spacey, buzzed, dizzy feeling all the time---but that went away (too bad!).

Yes, I find that Gabapenting, once you find that you can tolerate it has been quite effective at considerably reducing the intensity of pain.
It seems that you are still at quite a low dose, which is good if it is working for you, but if you find that it begins to wear off, you can ask your neuro to increase it (very gardually by about 300 a week) until you reach the level, which best suits you.
MY neuro said that I can safely take it up to 3600 a day, but I found that it is has been OK for me to stay at 2400, or mostly 2100mg a day, for quite some time without making s/e too bothersome.
MY one s/e is sleepiness, but then again I am not working, and since it also guarantees me a good nights sleep I have learned to live with it.
Good luck with Gabapentin and welcome to our forum

I tried it once but found I couldn't tolerate it due to how sleepy it made me. I was so sleepy that I could not even drive!

Yes, Seaine sleepiness is a pain. But since it has helped me to live with M I tried various doses and in the end found a compromise which is not ideal but I am so tired of living with head pain all my life.
Did you find that G helped you with M, or did you not take it long enough for it to have the desired effect for you.

Re: Neurontin/Gabapentin
i took neurontin for a year, at huge doses (up to 4800/day). it helped me sleep. that's all it did; no help with the migraines. no side effects at all. this was about 15 years ago.
a couple of years ago i tried it again at much lower doses, with the same results. i don't like the idea of a seizure drug one bit, but i surely would have continued it, if it had helped. dianne

Unfortunately I didn't take it long enough to know. I was having a lot of fatigue issues anyways at the time, so when I started it and then almost crashed my car I just stopped immediately. When I told my doctor he referred me to a sleep specialist and didn't have me try it again.

Re: Neurontin/Gabapentin
I am so sorry Seaine. Sometimed those s/e can be realy too much.
I had a similar experience with Topomax. S/e were of a different kind, but also very scary, so I had to stop it very soon after starting it.
Each medication affects each one of us differently, but we still keep trying to find something that not only will help to relieve the pain, but that the kind of s/e the medication causes will be reasonably acceptable to each of us.
