How do you take your Neurontin
I was thinking what is the best way to take 1800mg Neurontin (Gabapentin) a day.
Since Neurontin often makes me sleepy after I take it, I have tried many different combinations
I've tried to take 3 x 300mg at night, then one in the morning, as soon as I wake up, one late morning, one in the afteroon.
Sometimes take 2 x 300mg, three times a day, but this dose (two tablets together) makes me very sleepy during the day.
What is the best way to do it.
How do you take yours?

hi there
Do you find Gabapentin helps......I take 1200 mg daily. It does nothing for the headaches. I see you take 1800mg daily. Does it help....In answer to your question: perhaps you could take all of it before bed. But I would discuss this with your dr. first.

Re: How do you take your Neurontin
I took this several years ago. It didn't help with my migraines so I stopped it, but I had a 3x a day deal, with more at night and less during the day, like you described. I don't recall it making me sleepy, but I am sure that is why it was split up that way.

Gailgigi - in answer to your question, yes, it most definitely helps me,
Neuronting made my migraines more controllable, and I never get this terrible levels 8 igraines I use to. However, at the same time I have also reduced my painkillers (see MOH posts) and those two things have reduced my migraines considerably.
I have been told to "find my own level" in terms of how man Neurontins In take (up to 3600mg maximum) a day.
Initially I was told to start with 600mg a day, then week by week to increase it up to 1200mg, and give ita time to work. Since theree is a consierable time delay in a way Neurontin works.
At 1200mg a day I was still getting migraines although much less painful so I was told to increares it further and went over the next few month to 2100mg, which was working for me very well, but I was sleepy all the time, so this is why I stopped at 1800mg and this is fine.
I have also tried to decrease Neurontin to 1200mg again, but soon those more painful migraines began to come back so now I stay at 1800mg.
I also tried to take them all at night, but it was not very practical since I must take some other medicines at night and I felt like a rattle inside with all these tablets, I did not feel comfortable.
Stephgood, I wonder if you were taking daily painkillers when you started on Neurontin as apparently this stops preventatives working as they should.
I was also told that there is a time delay before Neurontin starts to work, sometimes few weeks, so it is important to give it time.
Ofcourse not all treatments work for all of us in the same way. For egsample, many people complain that Neurontin made them put of weight, but I have not experieced this, instead it makes me sleepy.
I suppose we all keep trying what is best for us, but it is useful to know other people's experinces.
Thank you both for you input.
