Sharp pain
Hi
I am 17 years old
I have been told that I have migraine for about over 4 years now
and lately for about 3-4 days I have been having a sharp pain in my right sided head
It hurts a lot and the pain lasts for about 5-30 seconds then it goes then comes back again
Today I took motrin because I thought it was because of migraine but it didn't help at all.. I took 2 capsules too.. I can't do my homework at all
Yesterday I thought it was because of the amount of hw I did and had to do so I told myself I will stop and have a rest and it didn't go away until about 8 at night it was gone
then today again in the morning it came back it's mostly the right side of my head and nowadays I feel like I forget things so easily
I talk about something and then get distracted for 30 seconds then I forgot what I was saying
or I forget things and when I try to remember what I was going to do or what I placed my books
I just go all blank and confused and it takes so long to remember or I don't remember it at all
I also feel like I have no energy especially today
I don't feel like doing anything though I have lots of work to do but I just feel like I can't
My head hurts when I try to read or think
and I have been having constipation as well.. it's not new though but it just got back again (if that has anything to do with the pain)
My eyes hurt when I have to look at something bright for example look outside
I don't know what to do :\
I also get distracted easily
btw. I have this spot where if I press on it it hurts a lot
but sometimes pressing on it makes me feel better though it hurts

Re: Sharp pain
You may have migraines, or possibly cluster headaches. The short bursts of intense pain sound more like a cluster headache. The other symptoms including trouble with concentrating and attention are common with migraine.
In either case you need to get proper treatment from your doctor. You may want to see a neurologist in your area who specializes in migraines so that you can get preventative medications as well as pain relief for when you have attacks.
In any case I can totally see being unable to do homework in such a state. Get your patents to write a note for your school, but try to make up the work tomorrow so you don't get too far behind if you can help it.

Re: Sharp pain
Migraines (mine anyway) typically occur on one side of my head or the other, and the most of the pain is usually right behind my eyes. The pain intensity tends to vary in a throbbing or pulsing fashion, and one minute it is intense, and the next it is less intense. Sometimes they are low intensity, sometimes they cause me to double over in intense pain and I vomit a lot. I am also sensitive to sunlight and bright light. I wear dark sunglasses in the sun and keep my house lighted with low intensity lights. What you describe for your symptoms are all very common with migraines (down right typical). I have had my migraines since about the age of 10 or so. Usually they start in your late teens.
Unfortunately it is not always easy to get a proper diagnosis. I went to several specialists (neurologial specialists) about my migraines and was mis-diagnosed with tension and cluster headaches, and given all kinds of useless drugs that in one case, made me downright suicidal. It was not until I went to a psychiatrist that was also a neurologist that I was properly diagnosed (when I was over the age of 40, when my migraines intensified for some unknown reason). I believe that the main reason I was not diagnosed correctly is that men are far less likely to have migraines than women. If/when you see a specialist about your migraines, you can get a Rx for drugs that are effective in stopping them once they start. They are called triptans and there are several out there, Imitrex and Zomig being the most common/most effective for people that I know that get them (as well as myself). They are really expensive Rx though. There is a generic Rx of Imitrex now, salled Sumatriptan Succinate that is cheaper. Over the counter drugs like aspirin and "Excedrin for Migraine" do little for me. Aleve (Naproxen) works better, but I have to take a lot of it to work. I have taken too much of that stuff for severe lower back pain though, and it gives me the willies (hebbie jebbies) and has caused problems in my intestinal tract after years of use. Motrin 800 is probably the most effective to dull headache pain. An old trick of a doctor friend of mine used Tylenol and Advil at the same time to reduce pain. Triptan Rx drugs are being blended with NSAIDs like Aleve now to increse the anti-migraine effectiveness.
Migraines are commonly a family trait. Ask your family if there are relatives that have migraines (siblings, parents, cousins and aunts/uncles). My aunt had bad migraines, but she died when I was young and I did not know about her migraines until I asked my mother about them. Her two daughters get them as well. They get the aura type. I do not. Aura migraines are accompanied by visual sensations. My one cousin says she sees stars that pop around in her field of view. Her sister says she sees swirling forms wiggle around in her field of view. In my family they are genetic and they are triggered by the same thing; tyramine in foods, bright light, and high levels of stress. Foods are the common trigger though. Chocolate, nuts, cola, tofu and ages cheeses seem to be the worst culprits.
So in the end, get a proper diagnosis (though the symptoms you describe are pointing strongly toward migraines), try to avoid triggers that cause them, and if you get them, treat them. There is no cure... managing your life to avoid them and coping with them is the best/only solution.

Re: Sharp pain
Many of us who suffer mligraines also get what we refer to as ice pick headaches. I suspect that's what you're dealing with. I've not found anything that really helps with them. I just have to bear with it. As far as the sensitivity you're having with bright light in your eyes, that's not uncommon either. I'd agree, if you haven't yet seen a doctor for treatment, you probably should. Sometimes they can give you preventives that will cut down on your attacks. 'm sorry you have to deal with this at your age. I started getting them when I was 10, so I know how it is to be a kid and in pain. I hope you can find something that helps.
