Sharp pain in my right eye

I have been having a migraine for 2 and a half weeks and there's a sharp pain behind my right eye. It hurts when I push on it. It also hurts when I move my eye. Has anyone else had this pain with their migraine? It is mostly a dull pain unless I put pressure on it or move my eye. Please answer because I am very worried.

It is not unusual to have pain around your eye, or eyes, when you suffer from migraines.
But do not worry too much in advance - migraine is a strange condition, it seems to change and alter over the years, and at times it causes us great anxiety, so I am not surprised that you are concerned about this new symptom

However at the same time, any new or unusual pain needs attention, so to be on the safe side it might be a good idea to have this checked with your neurologist.

I hope you will get reassured by your doctor and that this bout of migraine will soon be over.

I get the same pain with my migraines, but mine is in the left eyeball. So annoying!

I get this too but it is so hard to tell if it is migraine or sinus related. My eye doctor said it was most likely sinus because the sinuses are so close to the eye socket and more or less dismissed it being migraine related. I still don't know but I get it a lot too and it definitely is annoying.

I think if it coincides with the migraine, it is most likely migraine related. If it were sinus, you'd feel pressure there, but it would be many times when you did not have a migraine. I am positive mine is a part of the migraine.

Anything new on this blog??? Anyone get any good dx from their doctors regarding this pain. I too have pain BEHIND right ear. . . goes into facial pain and in right eye. . . kind of like a dagger from behind ear through to the eye. . . . . Thanks

Yes, I have experienced a sharp pain in my right eye along with a migraine at least 3 times I can think of, each time I also suffered symptoms of stroke in my right arm and leg. I was scared enoug that I went to the hospital because these are stroke symptoms and the docs actually ran a cat scan each time to make sure it was not a stroke. The cat scans came back okay so I was treated for the migraine.

I have had the nuero call the migraines I have Complex Migraines or Complicated Migraines. It is really strange what a migraine can do. For more information on Complicated Migraines, I would google it and find out more.

Almost all of my migraines are frontal and just behind my eyes, either left or right. The side varies, but the majority of my migraines are on one side or the other (about 50/50). Sometime I get what I call a double barrel migraine, and I get them on both sides, but that is rare. The symptom for me that differentiates a migraine from a standard headache is the site; just behind the eyes are almost always migraine related. If left untreated (if I do not take a Triptan early after onset), it will usually develop into a massive head throbbing stabbing migraine, and the worse it gets the more symptoms are added on. Stomach upset will follow, and in the worst cases, I will start to throw up and get pulsing and throbbing pain episodes in my head that are extremely painful. I get light sensitive at that point and going outside during the day is nearly impossible unless I wear really dark glasses. At that point Triptans are often times not effective and the migraines are apt to last for a day or two, and I am likely to get a rebound migraine a day or two later.

I'm actually dealing with the stabbing pain in my right eye right now. I went to bed with a slight headache and I woke up this morning and say up to get out of bed, it felt like my eye was going to explode.


I've had the pain all day now, although it'll fade for awhile then come back.


This is the second time this has happened, although I think the pain was in my left eye last time.

I also have pain in my neck and my jaw.


So I know exactly how you feel!
