Not a happy camper Empty Not a happy camper

I am not a happy camper right now. I have been waiting all week to get my Maxalt approved by my insurance company. I was hoping today I would be able to get my medicine, but no I am still waiting and in alot of pain. I called the insurance company and they talked like they would need more paper work from my doctor and even then it might not get approved! So here I sit in pain and everyone is gone for the day at my doctors office. I am so upset right now. We don't even have a hospital anymore in my town so I guess I will just have to suffer. I worked today and that was horrible in its self. Now this. No

Have you checked with your pharmacy to see how much a few of the maxalt pills would be? I know they are expensive, and I don't know your finiancial capabilities, but that could be an option. I'm trying to help. I am going to assume that the doctor's office did not have any samples to offer you and with them already gone for the weekend it seems you are stuck. Is this your specialist or you primary physician? If it is your specialist, and you have a primary doc., I wonder if you could prove to your primary doc that you have a script for the maxalt, and if he had samples, could get you a couple to last you through the weekend. It's not like you are asking for pain meds. Good luck!

I already had a prescription from my doctor for the Maxalt. I have been on Maxalt for quite a while now. When I took my prescription in to get it filled my insurance changed somehow and they wanted to do a tier or something like that. To my understanding they wanted to see if maybe I could take another medication instead of the Maxalt. I m assuming b/c the Maxalt is very expensive. Well I guess my doctor wants me to stay on the Maxalt and sent in the paper work saying that and now I guess the insurance wants more paperwork, my medical records, etc. I don't understand why I should have to wait for a week and now even longer for all this to get taken care of. The kicker is I might not even get approved for the Maxalt anyways so I wish my doctor would have given me something else rather then make me wait all this time. I ate something and took some over the counter meds and that helped a little but Im still hurting. I asked the pharmacist how much would 3 Maxalt cost and she said over 90 dollars. One pill would be over $30.00 dollars. I just can't see paying that price. When I have my menustraul migraines they can last for 8 days straight sometimes. Anyways thanks for your suggestions kw. I appreciate it. It helps to vent.

Not a happy camper Empty have you tried looking on Maxalt.com?

Post  dizzyflower Sun Jan 24, 2010 8:44 am

I just googled Maxalt and they have an offers section. there is a free trial voucher and a voucher for money off, I don't know if it is of any use to you because I don't understand the insurance system as am in England but it is worth a look.

hope it clears soon.

Di

ps am waiting for meds instructions (prescription) since 2nd Dec so know how frustrating this kind of thing can be.

best wishes.

Sounds like your insurance changed with the new year. Also the drug formulary changed. This meaning that the Maltex (sorry I cannot spell) is not on the formulary but another triptan is. Call your insurance company or look online on their site and they should have posted their drug formulary.

Usually two different triptans are listed. At least that was how it was with me several years ago. Ask your doctor if he has some samples to tide you over until the paper work gets settled. Your doctor can override the formulary but it takes time as you are seeing.

In the mean time if he can give you samples or get you a perscription of pain meds until you can get your maltex that would be helpful to you. I do not think that is an unreasonable request.

Good luck and I hope this gets settled for you soon. There is nothing worse than being out of meds!
