angry at myself...
I'm on day 3 of a migraine, currently its pounding the right side of my head with the throbbing focusing itself in my eye and just above. Its also given me me earache this time on my right side, (anyone else get earpain with migraine? I've had it with the last two)
The reason I'm annoyed is I know exactly why I'm feeling so ill! I stupidly let my guard down after a relatively good couple of weeks and ate some dark chocolate that was sitting in the fridge waiting to be eaten. I should have known better but sometimes I've been able to eat a little and be fine. With a few hours of eating it the migraine had started *sigh*
kicking myself right now because those few seconds of chocolate heaven have given me 3 days of pain!
Last night I discovered a good tip for alieviating the pain a little, I have one of those bag things (sorry not sure what you call it lol) that you put ice into and place it on the part of your body that hurts. Well its quite heavy if you put ice and water in so as I was laying in bed I placed it on the right side of my head where the throbbing is and laid on my side so the weight of the bag presses on my head....I found the ice and the pressure very soothing with some calm background music on For some reason when I have a migraine I have to press on the part that hurts to relieve the throbbing so this was ideal as I can sleep a little
Hope this helps someone I know all migraines are different

I hope it goes quickly. I find the same thing helps dull the pain if the triptans haven't killed a migraine before it gets that bad. A physio told me once that chronic pain sufferers sometimes use nettles to make a part of their body tingle because it causes their nerve receptors to focus on something other than their chronic pain. Maybe the pressure does the same thing.

I also get ear pain with my migraines sometimes, especially the ones that are focused on one side of my face. It almost feels like my ear is "leaking and swollen". A rolled up Frozen ice pack that are for coolers work well too! Also, Salonpas patches on my neck, not the extra large ones, but the medium ones help. Hope your feelig better!

Finally someone else who feels better with pressure on the migraine side.I have a stocking for a cast that I put a ball in tie around my head and lay on. My husband used to put the heel of his hand or elbow on the pain spot and lean. People had never heard of this before and were surprised when I mentioned it here. I guess it's like a trigger spot.
Thanks for sharing. I have been doing the ice lately also and had a 5 day migraine last week. Something weird in Ohio last week.
There is a product that is a rubber disc that attaches to a piece of stretchy fabric and fastens around the head. I sometimes use that. I usually go back to the cast stocking, tip: spin the fabric to keep the ball from sliding, if I leave it out my dog goes nuts trying to get the racket ball out of the stocking. LOL

That sounds like a great idea will give it a try! The migraine has now migrated to the left side of head as is usual for me it always swaps sides before going away entirely so hopefully this is the last day...
My partner had to press his thumbs hard into to my forehead last night just so I could feel some relief and he was worried he was hurting me!

Re: angry at myself...
Jul,
I usually take a tie from one of my robes and tie it very tightly around my head. This alone gives me a lot of relief, but sometimes I tie ice packs really tightly to the spots that hurt. This way I can still be mobile and don't have to lie in just one position. It's pretty amazing to me how much relief I've gotten from tying things around my head, lol.

HA HA Jwar - I'm the same way! I usually take a scarf and tie it tight around my head. Pulling on my hair helps too! Whenever I go to massage therapy I have her pull my hair - she thinks I'm nuts but it really works!

I do the same thing.
Sometimes you just have to test the waters to see if you can get by with having a little of what you really want.
I am so sorry you have been going thru so much pain.
Take care.

had to laugh at these ways of getting some relief (if you don't laugh you'd cry right? ) Last night I ended up in bed with a belt around my head and ice pack on the side I was laying on, my partner said I looked like a ninja LOL
I think when you suffer chronic pain like this on a regular basis you stop caring about what you look like. I often get weird looks in the supermarket for wearing big dark sunglasses to filter out the horrible lighting
Hope everyone is having a good day today
