Hospital said they won't treat me?
I came home for winter break, and stupidly left my medication in my apartment. I had to go to the ER twice before the holidays were over and I could go to my doctor to get my medications.
On the second visit the ER told me I'm there too often and if I came back they would not treat me again. I tried to explain the situation to them (and I have all my meds again), but the doctor insisted I not come back. I called and talked to some administrator and got the same answer. I don't understand.
Are they even allowed to do that? Thankfully I go back to my apartment on Friday and I stay there from now on, so it won't be an issue. The hospital there is fine. I'm just curious, as it seemed very strange to me!

Congratulations! You've been labeled as a drug seeker!!!
Happened to me too. A overly righteous god-complexed zealot nurse at a walk in clinic complained I was going there too often. Thankfully the ER will still treat me.
I don't believe they can tell you not to come back without ruling out a life threatening issue. But after that they can deny treating you with certain drugs like narcotics.
Sounds like another doctor with a god complex. Is there another hospital you can go to if needed? The trouble is in this electronic world, records can follow you to other places. You can demand a copy of your records to see what the doctor jerk put in there. I don't know how hard it is to get something like that changed with out raising some serious hell.

I wish this was unusual but it's not. The same thing has happened to me. It makes me increasingly reluctant to seek help from hospitals, even if I'm in severe pain. I hope your doctor can help you get documentation for emergency medication, but since i've never had this resource I don't know how it works. Good luck.

This happened on your second visit? That's just awful...animals are treated better than that. Every doctor or nurse that works in the ER should have to experience a chemically induced migraine so they know what we are feeling.

Oh... that doesn't sound good. :/
Next time I need a hospital I'll try the one by my apartment and see what happens. I don't want to push the issue with this one.
I stinks that they can say no narcotics. Nothing else works in those situations. I can't take compazine, in simplest termsit makes me crazy. Same with reglan (zofran works nicely though) Toradol isn't strong enough usually, decadron does nothing... only I've found that works after I've maxed out on triptans is dilaudid. With this hospital, I did tell them that I usually get 1mg dilaudid IV in the ER, but that since I had no imitrex that day they could try 6mg imitrex SQ first. Instead I just get told I'm there too often and won't be treated again. Meh.
I really hope this doesn't follow me to the hospital I usually end up in. I have a rough time with migraine in my dorm/apartment because I triggered by all the noise from the RAs at night. I end up in the ER pretty regularly. They've never had a problem with me though.
If I'm labelled a drug seeker by a hospital and something happens like a fall and break my wrist, can I still go there or no? Should I call and ask?

I've never been to the ER for a migraine and I hope that I will never have to.
Here in Italy the ER would give you a shot of Toradol for a bad migraine attack. I don't think that there's a limit to the number of times that you go there with a migraine episode. Good ER doctors would keep track of your migraine history and would schedule an appointment with a migraine specialist in the hospital but would NEVER refuse to give you at least a shot of Toradol and some Phenergan...
If they had doubts about your good faith and thought that you are a drug seeker, they'd ask for a psychiatric consult.
It's horrible to be labeled as drug abusers, I find it unfair. This doctor has shown to be ignorant: he should know that migraine cannot be faked easily and he should have listened to you more carefully.
What a shame....

hospital said they won't teat me?
Yeah. This is common. I had one hospital ask to check my records at another hospital, which I said ok to. They also called my DR, after I gave them her card and said that she said they don't use narcotics to treat me. Meanwhile, I called my DR and she said that she would tell them exactly what she treats me with and I could have narcotics. My DR is a woman. The ER doc came back in and said "HE said no narcotics" haha!! What a liar! He gave me the standard benadryl/phernergan cocktail and I told him that I already took it 3x that day. I took that injectable at home! Then he said there was nothing more he would do. He sent me home worse than when I wen tin.

Unfortunately because you are young they are jumping to a conclusion that you are a drug seeker. Two visits is not too often and is certainly not enough for such a conclusion. It would be worth arguing, but of course when you are so bad off that you need the ER you are in no shape to make such arguments. If you have to go again, I'd recommend a different hospital for many reasons. Also if your father or mother, spouse or someone can go with you to intercede on your behalf you will be better off.
It's very likely this is a single cranky nurse or doctor making this call. Very unlikely they have "reported you" to other hospitals. There is no permanent record regardless of what they told us in elementary school. In fact if you go back to the same hospital and get a different nurse or doctor you could get a different answer.

Actually, my mother was there arguing for me. Still that's the reaction we got. Sad. They never called me a drug seeker to my face. Or said that to my mom. Is that normal? Why not just say it?

It's not what they tell you, it's what they put in your records. I would obtain a copy of them to see exactly what is in there. They have to give them to you, however they may charge a fee.

I just hate to hear that this happened to you. Us migrainers seem to always get labled. If they only knew how much pain we are really in.
Sorry this happened to you. When you are home is there another hospital close by besides the one you went to over the holidays? I sure hope that would not follow you to other hospitals what the first hospital said.
Achhh I am so irritated about what just happened to you.
I am origianlly from Ohio and I was wondering which hospital it was. If you do not feel comfortable saying that is ok with me. Just curious thats all.
Hugs to you,
