No pain relief-you've got to be kidding!
It's an ongoing story..but the bottom line is my NP said 'no more narcotics" and I have a functioning life...not more than 10 days of HA's so I am not on daily narcs.
Talked to my regualr dr. and she said after looking over ALL my migraine records (16yrs worth!-God bless her for actually reading them!) and said that the point is coming that the FDA will limit narcotic RX to only a few specialists because the street value and people are selling them and they wreck it for those of us who use them correctly!! ugh!
anyways, I told her how my NP want's me to just "ride the pain out" and not have any pain relief but keep using maxalt/ketorolac every 6 hrs.
I told my boss, my pastor, I would need a "pain coach" like a labor coach to be there to help me thru the pain so I don't jump out a window or something because that is ungodly pain to have to go thru.
my regular dr. referred me to someone who can help and she also thought that the way I use my meds it shouldn't be a problem seeing how I've been thru the gamet before.....so keep your fingers crossed.
I called this gal and of course she isn't in until Dec. 14 but says she'll check her messages so I hope to hear from her.

Re: No pain relief-you've got to be kidding!
I sent you a PM but I've been there. I guess my only other suggestion is to go to the ER or urgent care when it gets to that point. I've tried riding out those suckers and it's not worth it. When you feel like harming yourself to get it to stop, GO TO THE ER!
I also would say screw the NP and do what works.
Hopefully you get an appointment with this new person post haste.

Another approach might be to see a pain management specialist. I saw one for several years who tried his best to find a way to cure my headaches and neck pain. At least he would prescribe the pain meds when nothing else was working.

pain care specialist on my list
I have an appt. but not until Dec. 29 to see a pain care specialist in town..unfortunately I already know that NO ONE in this city will perscribe narcotics they ALL are anti-narcotics so I don't hold out much hope for that appt. But I would love to be proven wrong!!
I really hope the neuro I am seeing in Chicago (who I used to go to and is totally on board with pain relief narcotics) will be my answer. the only problem is when he retires than what???
