update on my neurology appointment tody..for treating intractable/refractory migraines Empty update on my neurology appointment tody..for treating intractable/refractory migraines

My hubby brought me to see the new neurologist..he was nice..short to the point..told me that he couldn't stop them, but his hope is to lessen the pain.

I was given four new medications to add..to the Zofran and Dilaudid (that I was previously taking) They are Klonopin (1tablet 3 x a day for severe migraine) , Effexor(anti-depresant), ,a sleeping pill Sinequan (1-2 pills every night, and an anti-inflamatory, Etodolac (2 times every day).

He's hoping that the sleeping pill will help the migraine..and that the other stuff he added should cut down the pain. So, it's a wait and see..now I just need to talk to my PCP

Hope this makes sense my head feels awful

I'm so glad he gave you some new medicines....I've never heard of the last one before. I'll have to look that one up. I sure hope it helps - you're right, maybe some good sleep will help a lot. Thanks for the update!! Talk to you on facebook later!

I just started on the Klonopin and it is definitely helping with the sleep, though I feel very groggy if I take it during the day. Lack of sleep is a huge trigger for me!

Good luck!

Good luck with the new regime. Maybe this combination will help you, I hope so.

I went to a new neurologist recently who said I should spend 10 days in hospital on steroids to get myself off the daily triptans . . . but I'm burying my head in the sand at the moment while getting used to the idea.

Awww sweetie - so happy that you got some new meds. I know the Klonopin will knock you out, but don't think I have heard of the sleeping pill. Wow, both of those together really should do the trick with sleeping and hopefully will help with the head pain.

You will have to keep us posted on how they all work together!!

Isn't it so nice when Dr's are willing to work with us instead of fighting against us??

Have a great weekend, hopefully a pain free one!!

Hugs!! Talk to you on FB Smile

Hi Wendy,
I will keep my fingers crossed and hope that the new combination of drugs will do the trick!
Take care
