Am I worse, or am I just older?
I added up my medication use today.
I am using more Triptans than last year, but less OTC.
I wonder if I am in more pain, more often, or....
Is it that I am older and cant deal with the pain so well?
Nor, because of the fibro, can I exercise or move about much.
THIS has got worse the last year or so.
So does anyone over 50 feel it gets harder to deal with pain?
Or is it either, just me? Or are my migraines worse??

Re: Am I worse, or am I just older?
au contraire, pen, i feel that since i have such vast experience (now 41 years) of dealing with the pain, i am better at it. i'm likely one of the oldsters here (70) and my life IS getting better.
also, i'm probably just plain more used to pain, and i expect it. when it's less, i do waaaay too much, and then suffer the next 2 days! that's part of the fibro, of course.
as you know, i'm taking an enormous amount of triptans, and i'm back on ativan/lorazepam, (a benzodiapine, and NOT recommended. in fact, most doctors will fight a person wanting these, because of their highly physiologically addictive nature).
anyway, i take the ativan twice/week, so i get some sleep twice/week. and then i don't feel so bad all around. i hope for answers for you! dianne

Re: Am I worse, or am I just older?
Thanks Dianne. I dont feel old. I havent even gone gray yet...
I just lack energy, dont have refreshing sleep (fibro) and dont seem to be coping as well as I was 3 years ago.
Something changed in September 2007. I have no idea what, but things got worse, and they havent recovered.
It seems as if I have a half life because it is now almost 1am and my head is about as good as it gets.
But come the morning it will be back and I start over with the...what should I take? Will it work? If its Triptan, will the side effects wipe out the day??
This year I have developed a phantom teeth pain. It isnt a tooth problem. I dont know what it is, but it drive me nuts and no pain medication touches it. So I wondered if its as bad as I think it is, or I am just not handling things. It goes with the neck pain, which I am also not handling.
Maybe things will go back to how they were. When I thought I was so bad, but looking back, I actually was good then, by comparison.
So no excuse then, just try harder....

Pen dear friend ... no excuse - you are simply getting old!!!!! ROTFLMAO
hang in there ... one learns to deal and live with pain as best one can - all is fair in the fight to live one painfree moment - at least in my book!

Re: Am I worse, or am I just older?
I think the ageing thing is horrible Richard, but its worse because I was pretty much promised the migraines would go along with my hormones....
Instead of that, I am just 10 years older...
I dont mind the older bit so much, it's the worsening of the pain and the frequency of.
Hopefully as you say, I will learn to do it better over time....
Meanwhile thanks for the words of encouragement
