Faint "aura" out of corner of eye that won't go away. Anyone ever experience this?
For the past week I have been getting a faint aura-like vision out of the corner of my right eye. If I kind of move my eyes to the right I will see a shimmering pattern, very reminiscent of the beginning an aura in the far right side of my vision. But it doesn't progress into an aura and I don't seem to be getting migraines in response to it. I've seen it multiple times a day, every day for a good week now, especially in brighter lights or against white walls.
Has anyone ever experienced this? It's driving me a little crazy, mostly because of the paranoia of it progressing into a full blown aura/migraine.

From what I understand about migraine, the aura is a migraine. A visual migraine. I guess that would mean that you have had a migraine for a week now. Maybe taking some of your migraine rescue meds might get rid of it.

have you had auras before? they are the stage before the migraine pain starts and come in all shapes and sizes but ive never had them last that long they say they usually last from a few minutes to few hours it would be worth just getting an eye checkup!

Yes, I have had auras before. Usually for me an aura starts out as a small spot and progresses into filling my entire vision. In this case it's just remaining as a small spot, for a week now.

Jwar,
Have you tried the rescue meds? Even though you do not have pain, they may help?

Are you taking anything new that may be limiting the migraine to just the first phases of the aura? Maybe it's trying to break through but there's something holding it back?
I've felt that way at times - like the migraine is pushing to come out but something is holding it back.

Newtothis,
That is a thought, but I haven't done anything new lately.
Hal,
Migraine meds didn't knock it out.

I've been googling around "persistent migraine aura", and apparently it is an extremely rare condition that can happen to migraineurs. I actually found a discussion about it on the old forum here: http://www.migrainepage.com/dcforum/discussion/15085.html
Apparently there's nothing they can do about it, and it can last for months or YEARS.
Awesome!
Sigh...

Jayme,
How depressing! I had never experienced aura for 53 years. Then this year, I had a short episode and it scared the daylights out of me. I thought that I was going blind. If that stuff could last for years, what a bummer. There must be something you could do, like flying a kite in a thunderstorm and hanging onto the key or smoking a joint or eating cucumbers (that just gives you gas), holding your breath 'till you pass out or taking the decal off of your glasses.

Unfortunately I have had continual aura for years now.
It's annoying along with the black worms and I quite often think I have seen someone out of the corner of my eye. It made me quite paranoid to begin with but I am used to it now.
I have wondered if people who "see" ghosts just have aura. Or maybe I am seeing ghosts. LOL
The up side is that I don't get killer m's any more. Just a constant headache and aura. The headache sits 2-5 which is quite livable but it does wear me down. The last killer m must be over 2 years ago. That was the one that I think put the mark on the MRI which I asked about on another thread.
I have to wonder if something finally broke with that one and that's why it never really went away.
Maybe you are just heading toward this?
Hal the comparison to a lightenting storm is actually how it feels. Between the ears and the eyes the "sizzle" some nights is like lightening in your head.

Marion,
In another post, I explained what "seeing shadow people out of the corner of your eye was". It is the ability of all migraineurs to see into another dimension and we occasionaly see these "other dimensional" beings.
As for "sizzle between your eyes", that comes from hanging onto the kite key. I do get a sound as if someone blew up a firecracker inside my head on occasion and I go deaf and then my hearing comes back slowly over a few seconds. It doesn't happen very often.

Go Hal.
In fact our headaches are created by the dimensional forces. As we are so attuned to two dimensions one part of our brain wants to be in the dimension that has great food and drink and all round continuous good fun, and the other part of our brain wants to be in the dimension where we take our responsibilities seriously and work really hard, ergo headache

Ok, this will sound like a very stupid question, but have you changed your glasses or the computer at your work station at work?
For me this was the worst after I had eye surgery. I suddenly had peripheral vision after decades with just a blur and my head took a loooooong time to adjust.

Unfortunately, I haven't changed anything. The vision isn't blurry, but a clear scintillating scotoma (like this: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ntRmfSRHltU/SQY3l-sg23I/AAAAAAAAAhk/yTsAWep-Ufg/s1600-h/nrn1102-f2.jpg).
Sidebar: that photo is actually about a year and a half old. After I woke up from brain surgery I didn't need glasses anymore. My vision was somehow fixed. Pretty fucking crazy, huh?
I had had Lasik a few years before that, but it started wearing off. The surgery took place in the visual portion of my brain. It really blew me away when I woke up and could read the writing on the garbage cans by the nurse station!

How cool is that!!!!!!!!!
I'd be more concerned having your history. I can only assume you have spoke with all your specialists about it right?

jwar - YES. In fact, just this week for the first time. I used to get aura's years ago (like the ones you were talking about that take up your vision). It has been 9 years since I had those. Then this week I had what you described and waited for it to continue into a full blown one. Never did. Mine only happened one day though. It was exactly what you described though.
