Hate It.
Hi all,
I have just signed this forum in hope to try and see how other's out there cope with migranes because i'm finding it hard.
I started bout 2yrs ago justing getting the odd headache then from about last year they got worse and doctor perscribed me some tablets which helped at the time.
I had a bad one tuesday leading the doctor to sign me off work and has started me on beta blocker's to try and help. All i've wanted to do is sleep and even doing the odd thing about the house ware's me out. Yesterday i thought i was going to pass out i felt so faint and sick.
I think unless you have migrane's yourself nobody realise's how they make you feel, even my consentration seems to have gone to the point making a cup of tea without the teabag.
I am now on a mission to try and improve my eating habits and lifestyle to hopefully help a little with them.

I've been working on improving my general health too. It makes me feel less hopeless.
I quit smoking two months ago. And this month started working on my weight. I know it will help with my back and hopefully with my head. I've already lost a few pounds so I'm feeling good about it.

Claire,
Welcome! Sorry you found it necessary to find this forum because of your headaches/migraines, but glad you did. You will find nothing but support, information, and so many caring and understanding people here that can relate to what you might be going through.
Hope the meds your doctor put you on will work for you. I am dealing with a pretty bad one myself right now and can't really respond to the rest of your post at this time. Just wanted to say hi and hope your feeling better.
Hugs!

Re: Hate It.
For the first few weeks Inderal (beta blocker) will make you feel pretty rotten. I describe it as being poisoned. But after a while it won't hit you so hard. However it's likely you will have to keep increasing the dose to find a good relief level. When I was on it I had very little energy and gained weight.
It's baffling how docs prescribe it to people with high blood pressure and then tell them to exercise also. "here....I am going to give you some poison that will make you exhausted. Then I want you to exercise even though it will be nearly impossible".
Beta blockers block the manufacture of epinephrine (adrenaline). So just how well can you exercise without hardly any adrenaline?

Re: Hate It.
I can totally relate-
Have you seen a neurologist or HA specialist? Do triptans help at all?
God bless,
Holly

Claire,
Welcome to the forum. Sorry you had to find us. One thing you will find is that all of us are incapacitated at different levels.
I'm to the point where I've sworn off all meds that will try to prevent migraines and just use my abortive and rescue medications. But if the symptoms are intolerable, please go back to your doctor. The medication shouldn't make you feel worse than the migraines already do.
