Upset stomach as a migraine symptom?
Quick question.
True I have IBS but it isnt a huge problem like it was.
But although I am never sick and dont even usually get nauseous with my migraines.
I have had a phase lately of having unexplained stomach upsets and then a migraine comes in 24/48 hours.
Do many of you, with or without IBS get this please, and is there any explanation/remedy please?
Thanks
p

Re: Upset stomach as a migraine symptom?
Sometimes I have weird symptoms like you describe.
My stomach begins to overproduce juices and I feel hungry but nauseous at the same time. I also develop an unpleasant taste in my mouth that disappears when migraine has gone.
I try to eat something salted like creakers or crusty bread. It seems to calm down the discomfort a bit.

Re: Upset stomach as a migraine symptom?
Thanks Ivy. I have actually spent the whole day back and forth to the loo.
The head pain was not there, but has hit sudden and hard. In about 5 minutes....
Now I wonder if the belly problems are from the migraine because everyone is fine and I havent eaten anything suspect.
I did eat a light lunch, but it didnt change anything.

Pen,
I often get nauseated before the nasty pain comes. But I don't have IBS. My body responds to intense pain by vomiting - I haven't yet with a migraine but have come close a few times. I almost wish I would if it would get rid of the nausea...

oh yes.... this morning, woke up with horrid pain after weird dreams of pain.. spent the first 20 minutes of waking up in the loo.... And had the burping attack last night before sleeping. Once again I offended my daughter
IBS and migraine go hand in hand... I wish they could come up with a quick med to perk up serotonin so we can avoid the IBS part of the migraine.
owwwww...

Ivy.. is the unpleasant taste metallic? Like sucking on aluminum foil? I get a taste like that sometimes and it is always the harbinger of a nasty migraine. A very strange aura.

Re: Upset stomach as a migraine symptom?
I have been having terrible nausea and vomitting but I am in the middle of a 10 week migraine BUT my gastro says except for a little irritation in my esophagus everything is normal.
I just came off about 4 or 5 days of not being able to eat or drink. I assumed it was gastro related due to previous issues of the same but now that you all have mentioned you have this may be not. I have always had nausea and vomitting really bad with my migraines just not as bad as it has been lately.
