just starting birth control, triggering migraines.
My doctor (neurologist approved, obgyn wrote prescription) prescribed birth control for me. My neurologist recommended Seasonique. He said that the fewer periods I have, the fewer migraines I should get during that time of the month. He also told me to take a daily aspirin with it to prevent stroke. I'm taking a beta-blocker every day, which has reduced my migraines to almost nothing, except around my periods. It's as if I'm not taking beta-blockers during that time. I'm also having irregularities with my periods and a lot of pain.
I have mitral valve prolapse syndrome, which very briefly means that my body can't regulate new chemicals in my body as quickly as normal people. So, I was expecting to get migraines when I started on the pill. I've now had the worst migraines imaginable for almost 4 days now that I've been on the pill. It just seems to be getting worse.
How long should I give the birth control a chance before I throw it in the garbage. I don't know if I can take another day of these migraines, but I will if it means that I get less migraines in the long run.

Re: just starting birth control, triggering migraines.
I personally would allow myself to go through one full menstrual cycle - so...28 days. But if you just can't deal with the pain, you just can't. Maybe you can talk to your doctor and explain that you really want to give the pill a fair shot, but the initial period in which you are getting used to it is extremely debilitating to you. Maybe they can put you on a short course of narcotics or steroids until your body becomes accustomed to the hormones.
