Well say that somebody posts a question and there is some disagreement among the posters. Instead of giving helpful advice, they start to gang up on the one person who disagrees with them. Meaning that they become rude and purposefully being a jerk. It`s like they take personal pleasure in seeing that person ganged up on. Like a bunch of bullies enjoying themselves.

I have not seen that here very often, though there is one person that posts inappropriate stuff and says very bad things, so often people ask him to go away, but over all, I think this is one of the better forums.

I have not seen it here. That`s why I like this site. I`ve seen it on other sites and it happens a lot.

Re: People ganging up on others
There are always hot topic issues, and there are always some people that are not going to get along, but for the most part, this site remains pretty peaceful.
People gang up on people usually because they get a false sense of security in larger numbers. Kind of like a mob mentality. Crappy part of most sociaties unfortunately.

Re: People ganging up on others
Considering that most of the members here are drugged with horrible meds that change they way we perceive life and react, have to live in a world that does not understand the hell of migs and much less care, have to deal with apathetic and uncaring docs and clinics, in pain way too much and still expected to live and function the same as the rest of society I think most of us do a great job at being civil to each other.
I try keep a thick skin any time I visit a support forum. Support means something bad is going on and people are trying to deal with it. We are here trying to make the best of it and I know that most of us are doing our best to be civil. Sometimes we come up short.
Sometimes I have to stay away, once it was over a year. 90% of the threads here I have to ignore since my opinions would probably go over like a fart in church.
As far as ganging up I hope we only do that to the trolls and spammers. This is our "house" and we have to keep the rodents out of it.
IMHO civility takes effort even when things are going great. When we hurt we may not have enough energy be as effective at it. We also may not have enough perception to stay away.
So I think we are doing OK overall considering the living hell most of are dealing with.
I try to post nice things that can be a pleasant distraction, or maybe some hardcore info I delved into and benefited myself from. Just reading all of your experiences has been very helpful to me to see I am not the only one dealing with this hell.
This forum will be what we choose to make it.

Re: People ganging up on others
I agree with your post Brett.
My feeling is that I try to only reply to posts that I feel what I have to say can really help and is positive and supportive.
I really can't see the sense in arguing about anything.
I have been to other sites and seen how they attack each other.
Personally, that behavior to me is non-productive and doesn't help anyone.
I love this site.
The people here are some of the best, supportive people I know and I choose to ignore anything negative because we all have bad days.
Never would I hold that against anybody.
Hopefully you all will reciprocate if I ever have a bad day and write something stupid! (I'm sure it has happened!)
Anyway, I love you all.
Cindy

Re: People ganging up on others
I think that a forum is a small sample of the society. Therefore, you can find all types of humans. The cooperative and civil, the weak, the aggressive, the insane, the generous, the supportive, the leader....
It's like any other community.
Unfortunately, there are groups/places where a certain type of humanity prefers to gather so the annoying ones become the majority.
Fortunately this site is still very supportive and civil. There may be some members who have a more polemic and annoying behaviour, but they remain quite isolated from the group.

Well said, Brent. You summed it up accurately.

I also concur. Arguing is futile. Are our lives not tough enough. We are fortunate to have the empathy from each other that we cannot glean elsewhere; sometimes even from family. With one or two occasional exceptions, which can be embraced in Brent's eloquent piece, this forum is a sanctuary of support and understanding, well speaking personally anyway.
