There is a short film down the article, and a statement from the older nun.
Not subservient these women, not any more.

And become men??? Sorry I saw this earlier, didnt read it and assumed they were men at first glance.
Not that there is anything wrong with that, it shows their unadulterated looks.

Re: Beutiful women
I wonder if they take on "weekend nuns" - so one is only a nun, part time?
I know, I know...
But it all looks heavenly

Re: Beutiful women
Buddhist nuns shave their hair. It is part of the tradition and they do so when they take vows. They are women and in my view, very beautiful.
It's very sad when such an egalitarian belief system such as Buddhism takes on cultural bias. Buddhism itself doesn't have the gender bias that some other religions seem to have. The Buddha taught men and women alike, without prejudice. But surrounding cultural traditions can still cause hardship in the lives of women. So these women have decided to become more powerful. I think it's wonderful.

Re: Beutiful women
You absolutely get it Anna,
this is precisely why I think that these women are much more beautiful, then so many of the so called "celebrities", who might seem beautiful on the outside, but are just empty shells - there is absolutely nothing inside.
If anyone thinks they look like men I suppose you meant it as an insult?
"She looks like a man" sort of comment. They are not "feminine" enough? What is feminine enough, for some people I wonder.
BTW catholic nuns also shave their hair when they take their vows. At least they use to - I am not sure if there is any relaxation in this respect these days, or not, if anyone knows please correct me on this.
Thank you for explaining more about Buddism - it seems like a beautiful belief, and it makes a perfect sense to me.

I know a few Buddhists, I so admire their serenity and perspective.

Re: Beutiful women
I read recently a little more about Buddism and will try to comment at some other stage, but I need to go to teh kitchen to do some cooking as I have visitors and big lunch to cook today, and I am late -
