Poetry Entry #2
Here is my second entry. There are so many great poems being entered that I don"t really expect much as I don't write poetry very well or often. But these have just come out of the pain I've been in. It's a good way to put into words what I feel about all this.
Betrayal
A wonderful thing is the body
Complex and beautiful in its working
For years a delicate balance held
All systems align in a subtle ballet
A flutter, a ripple, enters the dance
A small change in the dip and sway
Shocks across the brain are sent
A scintilla of light before the eyes
Nausea is the first to appear
Its partner Cramping is soon behind
The piercing sound of voices herald
my ear's most unwelcome guest
Soon the color and hue of light's palatte
Becomes too much for my brain to take
Announcing with a harshness unwelcome
Photophobia, the beautiful, frightful queen
Taking his time, the guest of honor arrives
Lingering in the foyer of my brain
His prescence sensed, but not felt quite yet
He times his arrival to his infernal beat
Growing stronger and intense as he closes
Gradually his awesome visage appears
Sending shockwaves pulsing through my brain
Pounding spears of agony begin to dance
Pain, that most awful guest of mine
Has taken over the delicate dance
Of neurons, once a harmonious suite
now a clashing frightful mess
Betrayed by my body's own workings
My delicate dance of harmony and light
Is now a clash of warring systems
Once stepped together, now battle for the spotlight
What happened to the beautiful dance
That once held my body so dear?
Betrayed by one unsuspected,
My own wonderful brain has turned on me.

Now I'm weeping, Alli. I used to be so proud of the power and strength in my body. When I was little my nickname was Bam Bam. There was nothing I couldn't do. Push a car 100 yards? Yup. Do an timed obstacle course with a six foot fence with no grips...yup, did it. Passed Law Enforcement Physical Fitness tests in both Phoenix and Los Angeles County.
Now I can't even stand up straight, much less walk to the end of my road. I spend my spare time in my room...cocooning. You said it beautifully.

Oh, Alli, you are so talented in putting our innermost experiences into words that we feel in our core. This was wonderful.
I showed your other poem to my husband because it so exactly related my experiences/feelings.
I wish I had half the talent you do to convey these feelings to others. Thanks for sharing.
