Poetry that speaks of better days
Poetry that speaks to me, of days before the headaches started:
"Into my heart an air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
the happy highways were I went
And cannot come again."

What spires, what farms are those?

I see it shining plain,
the happy highways were I went
And cannot come again."

I used to like poetry, but sheesh! can not understand it anymore, it's hidden metaphorical meaning.
Still, I can feel and even appreciate it's poetic beauty, even if I can't decipher it.
Glad you can enjoy it.

Poetry
It could also refer to youth, or just plain hard times in the present. I liked the poem. I still fight for my happy highways.

Re: Poetry that speaks of better days
Interesting Poem.
I find that mostof thepoems I write either speak of better days, or after putting into words the battle, speak of the hope that soon, there will be better days. I love to write in general. However, I find that poetry conveys the daily fight best.
Thanks for sharing.
Pain free days,

Poem by A. E. Housman
Quoted on the new Lewis mystery episode "The Dead of Winter" by the wonderful Laurence Fox (Hathaway)
That is where I heard it.
