Euphoria?????
Hi All,
I'm curious... Do any of you experience the euphoria "they" say can be an indication of a migraine coming?

Euphoria? Anything but that! My neck tightens and my eyes start burning. That's my classic precursor.
A euphoria precursor; I've never heard of that before...

Euphoria?????
Hi Dan,
I too think it's a very rare thing, I have experienced it only once and it was years ago!
If you search it on google, it would seem that it does happen to some

Re: Euphoria?????
YES! I can be superwoman before a biggie, but more so when my migraines are episodic than now they are chronic and constant. It's really very useful for getting housework and chores done, and I miss it when I don't have it as things can build up around the house. It starts about 24 hours before a migraine and is part of my prodrome phase. I often don't realise I have it until I start thinking overly optimistically about getting back to work / clearing the loft out / saying how good I feel.
The down side is that I get the complete opposite after a migraine and feel utterly drained and down as my postdrome. I'm in that phase now (yesterday I was superwoman and felt great for the most part until the migraine got worse about 3pm).
This is only in relation to migraine episodes and I do not believe I am bipolar or such like! Previous uninformed drs have tried to convince me of this, but more educated specialists concur this is just part of my migraine.
Do you experience this?
Amy

Re: Euphoria?????
My husband has just reminded me that I get irritable and snappy before one.
God that must be constant now...LOL
I do go off him, thought its hormones, cos that was the same years ago.
I have had him 39 years though.

Re: Euphoria?????
Uh oh...I was just telling a dear friend that I don't understand what's up with me today. My back is killing me and I have a slight headache but I have a tremendous amount of energy, am in a great mood and am about to redecorate my guest room. I'm going antiqueing in about a 1/2 hour.
I'll let you know tomorrow what's up. I guess the timeing would be perfect if I do have a lulu as I have a neuro appt tomorrow. He seems to listen much more closely when I go in with a M.
Now I'm afraid I'm going to have a half torn apart room for months.....

I know a big one is coming because I can't sit still. I want to clean the entire house and throw a party for the whole neighbourhood. Everything is wonderful and sparkles. The next day I wake up in hell.

Euphoria????
Thanks all for your replies, it's something I have wondered about for a while.
Amy, I've experienced it only once, it was very strange to be so high one minute and then rock bottom the next. It was years ago but even now I can't help but worry whenever I have that feeling!

Re: Euphoria?????
I am exactly like Amy.
I feel incredibly good, high performing and outstanding 24 hours before a migraine. Often, this is the very first phase of bad attack.
As Amy says, it's a good moment to clean the desk at work and to fix things at home

Re: Euphoria?????
Hey, if you are going to suffer you might as well do it in a nice clean home! I do not get that "up and euphoric" feeling. I wish I did! I get migraines a lot so I would be much more productive. Whenever I have a bad week I end up looking all around at my apartment (which is babyproofed and usually pretty neat) and seeing all the things that need dusting and clutter that needs to be organized and it makes me feel worse. I'd much rather be migraining in a clean environment than a dirty one!! I think it makes a difference!

Re: Euphoria?????
I do, but it isn't because a migraine is coming. I feel euphoric because of life in general and this "causes" a migraine. It really sucks. If I get really excited about a coming event (could be as simple as it being a Friday and the weather is beautiful), it triggers a migraine.

Re: Euphoria?????
After reading this post, I started thinking.
I never put two and two together, but this has indeed happened to me.
I will get a really good day where I get alot of houseshold work done and feel great.
The next day I get a really bad M.
Can even remember my hubby asking how I could feel sooo good one day and sooo bad the next.
Doesn't happen often but has happened and I never recognized it.
Thanks for bringing this up.
Wonder why this happens?

I've never looked into why it happens actually.... I might just do that when I have some time. It certaily is "interesting".
Thanks all for your replies, it's something I've been curious about for a while!

Re: Euphoria?????
I get this from time to time. A sense of well being and a deep satisfied sense that all is right and things are really good. (Things aren't bad in my life, but the feeling is out of proportion to normal experience).
It's quite a pleasant experience although these days I know that it's generally a sign of impending migraine. It often comes along with a feeling of energy and wakefulness, and I can get quite a lot done.
It's like my body is borrowing against the future and paying it back with feeling crappy and tired.
When I realise it's happening, I try to take advantage of it. Last time it happened I stayed up until 4a.m., perfectly awake. I got a lot done, slept for three hours and felt fantastic. That evening the headache started and the next day I was all but useless.
I hate migraines, but I do find them interesting to experience.

Re: Euphoria?????
I wish I got a euphoric feeling. All I get is the exact opposite. A very bad, hate the world for no reason kind of mood, which is the precursor to the migraine. In both cases I think it is our seratonin getting messed up as a part of the migraine syndrome.

I don't always get it. I've had days where I've been very short tempered, and really annoyed in general. Then, next day, hello migraine. I'm starting to recognise the symptoms and it's made a huge difference, though it amazes me that it's taken me until the last couple of years (I'm 37) to work out that it's migraines and I'm still discovering warning symptoms.

Re: Euphoria?????
It's not the norm, but I definitely have had it happen. I will have a day when I have abnormal amounts of energy and am downright hyper. Euphoria is a perfect term for it. Then I will get hammered by a migraine the next day. That feeling is kinda scary when I get it. You feel so good, but you know it's abnormal and a warning sign of something coming.

Re: Euphoria?????
I always feel very energetic & optimistic before a migraine & then it hits (literally). I've always wondered if the blood vessels aren't dilating when this euphoria is happening.

Re: Euphoria?????
Yes, I have felt euphoria for sure. In fact, I often think, when I feel inexplicably great, that a migraine is on its way the next day. It is the day before, or the morning of, and then a steep decline in mood until it ends in migraine. The euphoria is not welcome, as I know what is ahead.

Re: Euphoria?????
A further question on this previous thread - I do get some alternating irritability and some euphoria (more like excessive good spirits unfortunately not directed at cleaning so no productive results!).
Do you think it is useful to just notice the euphoria and irritability and be prepared for migraine? Or is there anything that I could be doing to try and interrupt it?
Does either encouraging it or damping euphoria down have any effect on the migraine?
Thanks.
Lynn
