Facial Numbness Empty Facial Numbness

Hi my name is Bonnie-Jean.
I have suffered with migraines on a daily basis for about 15 years.

My sister, Amanda, also suffers with an occasional migraine (maybe every 6 months).
Recently she has begun experiencing Facial Numbness.

It started one-sided around her mouth and over the last 3-4 months has progressed to cover her whole face.
She has had MRI and CT scan and is seeing a Neurologist with no diagnosis.

I read some posts about Barre Lieou Syndrome. She is a 29yo Graphic Artist and spends all day at the computer.
Do you think a Chiropractor or Musculo-Skeletal Specialist should be our next option?

I have been reading posts about cortisone injections and nerve blocks, and thought maybe this might help.

Has anyone else suffered a similar thing?

I had numbness going down my arm to the fingers in my left hand. It turned out to be a bulging disk which the pain specialist treated with cortisone injections.

I don't know if there is similar disk that would create face numbness, but it would be worth getting checked out. It certainly sounds like that Barre Lieu syndrome. It might be worth talking to a Chiro.

I have had facial numbness for about 8 years. It started during a 4 day migraine, but lasted after the migraine ended. My doctor didn't seem concerned until the numbness went down my right arm and to my fingers. Doctor sent me to MRI and everything was fine. I think the MRI was more-so do to my history with melanoma than headaches. The sensation 'receded' to my face and the MRI was fine so we stopped looking for an answer.

I still have the facial numbness about three to four times a month where my right cheek and chin just go totally numb for several hours or even a couple of days. (one morning I had apparently attempted to eat my cheek in my sleep! ouch!)

Wish I could offer some sort of an "answer" but I don't have one, I just live with it. My doctor has sent me to a neurologist, but neither seem impressed with the numb thing, they seem to think they could do more for the migraines so we concentrate on that, even though they concede that we'll probably not "solve" the migraines, just lessen them.
