Who has daily pain - Page 2 Empty Re: Who has daily pain

Post  pen Mon Jan 11, 2010 12:06 pm

See my other pain doesnt have any of my migraine symptoms.
It is anywhere from one side or the other, to up the back of my head and neck.
I have some pain most days. I am wary of MOH. But this has been going on for years.
Since October it has been much worse and I now have some sinus problems which arent helping.
I am fed up with it, and also worry8ing about MOH, and trying to deal without medication to avoid it.
Either way, not winning, still in pain n my head, and IBS and Fibro pain too.
What a time we all have.

I have daily pain too. Usually daily head pain, but also daily back pain. I really need to get back to physical therapy, but I can't afford it right now. Sad

I've had daily M / headaches for 10 years. Never though I could survive this, but I am so far, though it has been one hell of a ride, and not one people would buy tickets for. The biggest challenge is paying bills on Medicare, and missing my career - not on hold, but seriously diminished. (See my post on Lyme disease for my personal details).

What is the pain management doc doing for you? If you don't mind me asking? My neuro referred me to one his first idea was Occipital Nerve Block (ewwwww...and no help) I haven't gone back. Are the meds diff from what a doctor or neuro had tried with you??? Considering going back to see if he has fresh ideas, but not sure and my medical bills are already a concern.

I am sorry we are all enduring this. These aren't migraines, so what causes all this pain?

With all due respect , Pen, you know that because....???
Frankly I don't recall you being my dr, lol

Sorry Risa, I dont understand your comment. I know it because I know the difference between migraine and the other pain I get. NO I am not anyones doctor. And I don't know anything, except these are not migraines. MY PAINS.
Had it all day today, no migraine symptoms just myofascial pain. No light sensitivity, nausea, nothing. Also not unrelenting like migraine. Quite different to my migraines, cant speak for you or anyone else and never intended to. Smile

Your question clearly was who has daily pain.
then you've said:
WE are ALL enduring this pain. These are NOT MIGRAINES.

So, on what basis can you declare that while WE are ALL enduring this pain these are not migraines?
I don't think you have a way of knowing such thing.
I for one, know for a fact that my daily pain IS migraine. 100%.

Granted, you can speak of your own pain but not of everyone else.
That's why I objected to you saying:
WE are ALL enduring this pain. These are NOT MIGRAINES

You simply can not know that.

Who has daily pain - Page 2 Empty If anyone else is offended by my post, please say, I wish to apologise.

Post  pen Wed Jan 13, 2010 1:19 pm

Risa, Lets drop this shall we, we all have pain, it is different for all of us.
I am sorry if I in my pain I didnt post exactly as clearly as I might have, but we dont have time to split hairs with each other do we. Very Happy

We are all here to help each other and you have seen me on here long enough,
I might not always make as much sense as I hope usually due to pain or medication, but I do not seek to diagnose nor criticize anyone else either.
If you object to what I seem to have been saying, I am sorry.

However I didn't mean to analyse anyone else's pain, just my own OK.
I dont think anyone thought that was what I was doing. If they did then please say so and I will apologise to you also.

I was just commiserating with the pain we all have to endure, and it has got out of context.
When I said these are not migraine, for me they are not. Some others have already said their's are, I respect that.

That does not mean I think no one else's are, but it really isnt worthy of your objection Risa its just a misunderstanding.
MY pain, my almost daily pain is not migraine. Yours and everyone else's might be, but mine is not. As far as I can tell and the neuro concurred
I would not be so arrogant as to suggest I can feel nor identify another's pain. I am saddened that you took it that way. Really...

I apologise if my writing has lead you to misinterpret my intention, which was to see how many of us suffer with this daily pain, regardless of its title....too many it seems.
No slight was meant toward anyone, and I hope other than yourself no offence was taken.
As for the comment about me being your doctor, I made no suggestion of knowing anything about anyone, let alone to have any medical knowedge.
I spoke for myself and myself only. Again, this is a perspective and not written by me.

I hope that we can draw a line under this and continue to enjoy the support of this forum amicably.
I find it a fine place to come and do not wish to feel so uncomfortable that I might write carelessly on a bad day.
Please lets drop it now.

Thanks

Pen, split hair? oh, no never Very Happy

I just needed to clarify this, seeing how you wrote you don't understand what I mean.

Also, if I haven't explained what I mean I would always worry that perhaps I misunderstood you, so now I am particularly glad I did because you confirmed I did understood you well after all.

Therefore, please - there is no need to feel threatened and become defensive- no need
to harshly call for "dropping it" etc because I am not trying to start anything or be mean, or whatever, oh no.
I simply explained what I meant, that's all.
I am so glad we did that, as now we both understand each other perfectly, and can move on cheers

Now back to the subject - what possibly causes this daily pain for you - since you've wrote that both you and your neuro confirmed this daily HA is not M (although how can anyone can say that with absolute certainty, I don't know), then the causes can be endless.

Did you ever make a list of all your symptoms?

Who has daily pain - Page 2 Empty Re: Who has daily pain

Post  pen Thu Jan 14, 2010 5:49 am

Symptoms. Yes made many lists.

I am told I have muscle contraction headaches, and menstrually related migraines.
Now thats a bit out of date per se as I am well past menopause, but, I do still have a lot of hormonal symptoms.

I have Fibro as well and this has, (I believe) in tandem with a bad wisdom tooth removal given me myofascial pain mainly in the sternocleidomastoid. I am working on these trigger points as best as I can. I also have ny sinus almost touching my nerves which is damn unlucky.

When I get a migraine, which is on some weird cycle, every 5/6 days, (answers on a postcard please, cos I cant figure it) I also get nausea and feel very strange and otherwise out of whack. It is also on a scale of 10+.
With the almost daily pain it is never that bad, but bad enough to stop me functioning properly some of the time. Quite often my daughter helps it with Indian Head Massage. Pain killers dont help much. A lot of the time. I dont get any other symptoms with this pain. That is how I have been told I have two pains. Which is apparently very common. I do know that many neuros call everything migraine once you are told you have migraine. However, the neuros I see and the MAA over here dont concur. On the contrary they call them all headaches.....

I do think the difference between drs in countries should help us, but it seems to cause disagreement between them.
Not helpful, especially to those of us that use the internet and have access to a cornucopia of info. I often find I go back to my doctor here and have to be reminded, that: we dont use that drug, or do it that way in UK etc......

Anyway, I could go on. In short. I would love to find conclusively what causes my pains. I have no migraine in the family. No I am out of ideas.

I have got more support and information from this forum than all of the doctors so far. That is unbelievable to my family, but they have seen it and heard it. Thank God for these people here.

To reiterate, and paraphrase...What is this daily pain we all endure, MINE is not migraine (as far as I know.) I hope we all find resolution soon
cheers

Who has daily pain - Page 2 Empty Re: Who has daily pain

I know that a lot of the pain I have in my head is due to Trigeminal Neuralgia. THe Trigeminal Nerve is irritated during a migraine attack which is what gives most people the in the eye and above the eye pain. I have either a compression or lesions on the nerves that causes a variety of pains on all three branches on both sides of my face 24/7. On particularily bad days the TN will trigger a migraine attack. usually when I can't get the TN pain under control and my body just can't take anymore.... bam... along comes a migraine..

And yes, today... a migraine splitting my head open, and pain in my jaws, and a lovely burning pain up the sides and top of my head. And a feeling like a bug is crawling in my ear along with one #%$&#%^! spot on my outer ear that burns!!

It is a battle between taking enough meds to keep the nerve pain reduced and still be able to put a sentence together. Today I kind of feel like, screw the sentences... get rid of the darn pain!!!

I need to look into this Alli, Sounds awful and not unfamiliar. I have often wondered especially since my tooth extraction and the dentist showing me the xray of my nerves/sinuses. Sometimes for me its screw everything.... Neutral

Who has daily pain - Page 2 Empty Re: Who has daily pain

Post  alli Thu Jan 14, 2010 12:26 pm

I had a root canal done TWICE on the same tooth and I still get pain there. This is one of the hallmarks of TN. Tooth pain with no explanation. I also get a pressure pain in my cheeks that I thought for years was sinus but nooo, TN again. It used to be transient and I would go into remission for several months at a time but now it is 24/7.

I wasn't diagnoed until I had migraine with pain all along the left side of my face. The migraine went away but the facial pain didn't. After a week of that I saw my Neuro and he DX'd TN. A few weeks later it went bilateral. It was actually bilateral but was in remission on the right side.

Most of the literature on TN taks about the sudden stabbing pains but it can really be any kind of pain and can be a short pain or longer lasting. It royally sucks. I don't go a day without pain. It has really curtailled my life as I can't go out in cold or rather hot weather as is triggers attacks of pain. That doesn't leave much. I have to wrap my face up with a scarf when I go outside to keep the cold and wind off my face.

It is worth asking your neuro if it is a possibility. TN is very rare but..... I think that chronic migraines are either co-morbid with TN or TN can come about becuase of years and years of migraine attacks over stimulating the nerves til they give up. This is my own opinion!

Here is a poem I wrote describing a typical morning lately.

Oh! What a brisk morning!
So invigorating upon my face
Standing before the sink
To brush my teeth I take my place

Fresh breath, a silky feel
A stabbing, a blow, what is this?
That strikes so sharply
Takes away my morning bliss?

My, how lovely you look today
A fresh blush upon your cheeks
Who knew that my daily rite
Would bring crushing searing pain to my teeth

Neuralgia, you invisible beast
New definitions of pain you bring
You've made my life a constant feast
of trials, tribulations but still I sing

Of lovely brisk mornings
family, friends and my little pets
books and movies, the good in life
With these things I'll get by yet

I admire when people are able to express themselves through poetry. Lovely.

I, however, am only able to come up with dirty little ditties. Hysterical, but not repeatable.

I have head pain 5 days out of 7 roughly, but due to the combi of preventatives i am on at present the pain is tolerable, its not great but it is an improvement on this time last year. it can turn up at anytime of the day and for no apparent reason though which is horrible, and i still can make plans in the morning for that day, but have to cancel them by lunchtime because pain has started,
