"The Body Broken"
I am reading the poignant story of Lynne Greenberg and her struggle with severe head pain. The book is called, "The Body Broken." I wish I could put into words how much her beautifully written book is affecting me and teaching me.
I haven't finished it yet, but I will tonight. I'm living it all with her--the accident that devastated her body, the assault of severe head pain, the unbelievable number of consults with doctors/specialists, her neurosurgery, her treatment at an inpatient headache clinic...how she coped and survived it all thus far...
I can't recommend her book enough...it is tearing my heart apart to read it, but I'm so glad to have found it.
The truths she shares make me cry.

Thanks for sharing, Cheryl. It sounds very inspirational. I'm going to add it to my list of books I want to read (when I'm able to handle reading again; unless it's already available in audiobook form).
I love your avatar.....it's so beautiful and makes me think of Easter and new beginnings.

This book is a must-read for anyone who suffers from chronic pain! I've sent it to my two closest friends and my mother and sister. I had my husband read it as soon as I finished it.
The author is a poet and each sentence is crafted so beautifully, despite the difficulty of the topic. I hope everyone gets a chance to read this one.

Re: "The Body Broken"
I just put a request in for it.
Another very good memoir I just finished was "Hungry: A Young Model's Story of Appetite, Ambition and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves" by Crystal Renn.
She went from being a unsuccessful anorexic teen model, to a quite successful plus-size model. She had her epiphany when at 5'9" and 95 pounds, her agent told her her "thighs had to come down".
I found the politics of weight loss to be quite interesting. The BMI (body mass index) ratio has been lowered so that a person with a BMI of over 30 is considered obese (in his prime Arnold Schwarznegger had a BMI of 30.2 and "The Rock" has one of 32.5. Hardly obese specimens!). Of the committee that determined what BMI's were considered healthy, the majority of the committee represented weight loss programs or products. Recent studies are showing that people with a higher BMI actually have a longer life span.
Ms. Renn is a humorous and thoughtful writer. It was an interesting look at the modeling industry.

I really need to read it again, and I'm going to buy a copy for my son and his wife whom both love literature and poetry.
This book is EXCEPTIONAL, dear friends. It moved me like no other book I have ever read. Her bittersweet journey with "brain pain."
