Watch out for the bug!
Just exactly what bug (virus), I can't tell you.
I got smacked late wednesday with an extremely nasty bug that landed me in the ER for 4 hours on thursday.
I have been feeling a bit weak since the heart cath--usually happens. As this week went on, I started to feel worse and whamo.
Got the chills that progressively got worse. Started to run a temperature that got up to 102.3. Argh.
Biggest scary part was my heart beat shot up into the 140's when it is normal 50-60 beats per minute at rest. I woke up from a nap...I had been napping off and on during the day feeling pretty bad. I could tell my heart rate wasn't right.
Called my cardio and they told me to get into the ER. Dad took me in.
I walked in with dad having a firm hold on me, and someone got me in a wheelchair when the door opened. I was taken back for stat ECG. My heart was thumping away.
Biggest concern was a clot or embolism. Luckily the rhythm was ok, but rate wasn't. I was dehydrated so they hooked me up with a couple IVs. Had a CT angiogram of my chest. All clear. Nothing showed on panels, but my kidneys got nuked from the contrast dye from the cath. They used a less intensive dye on the CT.
The ER docs and cardio think I picked up a virus somewheres...whatever it was, I don't think I had been ever exposed to something this nasty. Absolutely felt horrible. Muscle pain, GI pain, severe headache, fever, tachycardia.
I'm feeling a bit better. Weird thing about the fever. Man o man, I've been given a lot of different pain meds for procedures, but the fever was a very weirded out experience. I swear I saw a girlfriend (LOL from 9th grade) when I was being wheeled out to the car. Weird.
Nasty bug. Yikes.

Re: Watch out for the bug!
thanks risa...
i'm doing better today, but dad came down with it now.
i knew he was getting sick yesterday and he denied it.
hopefully he'll pull through ok in a couple days. i have to monitor his vitals to make sure everything is stable. dehydration is my big worry.
my family members are the type that they'll admit they're sick about an hour before the die. anytime i don't feel good it's the oppositte.

Real sorry to hear you and your Dad are down for the count. Take care of one another and ... you are absolutely correct to be wary of dehydration. You and your Dad are both in good hands. Hope you are both up and feeling better real soon!

I'm so sorry you and your dad got this nasty bug. Sounds like a real bad one to get - and it takes so much out of you for so long afterward. Feel better, Marc.

Re: Watch out for the bug!
thanks so much risa, richard, ajr, and crt. i very much appreciate it--and good vibes right back at ya.
i'm doing better today, but on high alert.
my dad never gets sick, but when he does it's rough. not nervous but ready--this is a parent, my one left.
looking at all this stuff, it's easy to be the patient, i'm convinced. our caretakers take the brunt of the stress. i am glad, and proud to do anything i can.
because of this bug can screw with heart rate, i've been watching closely. dad's rhythm is slow--he works out alot and is very strong, but the bug nuked his energy. he needs a lot of calories to keep his energy up, and didn't get near enough today. hopefully the GI situation will improve and i'll be able to increase fluids.
i think we picked up this bug at the hospital when i was in for testing.
hopefully by morning he'll be better. i'm finding gray stubble in my 5:00 shadow.
take care guys.

Oh gosh no, not Daddy too!
Yeah, it's possible there was some flu going around in the hospital.
This is, after all, THE breeding ground for all the bugs on Earth for us to catch.
If you are up to it, cook old fashioned chicken broth for both of you - it make wonders for all kinds of flu.
I am keeping you Porsche Dudes in my healing thoughts, too!

Oh, so sorry Marc! I often feel it's easier to be the sick one than watching the ones you love suffer. I know when I'm bad, Hubby often says he wishes he could trade places with me.
How old is your Dad? It important to watch for pneumonia too. People forget how serious pneumonia still is in this day and age.
Hug to you and Pop.

Re: Watch out for the bug!
thanks everyone.
dad is back to normal. i'm getting back to my "normal." seems that a lot of people are coming down with this bug. pressure change has triggered an M, but I'll take an M over the bug.
i'm just glad my dad bounced back fast. he's in his mid 60's. good point about pneumonia. luckily this bug didn't have a respiratory issue. it was lower GI and stomach--a lot of pain and heart burn.
thanks again for everyone's kindness.
