My Daughter-In-Law Empty My Daughter-In-Law

Post  Anna's Mom Mon Mar 01, 2010 5:18 pm

My wonderful daughter-in-law learned in January that she has a tumor in her eye. It is in her actual eye--I believe in her iris.

Tomorrow she goes to the specialist at our University Medical Center who hopefully can deal with it. We know nothing more at this point.

For the last two weeks, she has experienced very severe headaches. She is obviously very worried about these headaches--being in our particular family Sad

I can't see that it is stress. She is used to dealing with stress being a high functioning, highly educated, accomplished career gal.

She didn't get the headaches when she learned about the tumor. The HA's came later.

Any ideas as to the cause of the HA's? Anyone know of anybody with something like this?

The tumor really is so tiny...we think.

How awful for her. I think she will have to wait and see what happens Cheryl. Goodness the stress from just knowing something is there would be enough to create all sorts of problems.

She had lasik eye surgery a year ago. In January she went for a normal follow-up appointment with the lasik surgeon. He saw the tumor. She had no clue it was there and had no symptoms. But now she has the HA's.

I sure hope they can treat this. I wonder if the headaches are related.

This should be a warning for people to have regular eye exams. People who do not have visual
problems, usually don't have check ups. It is the only way to detect common eye diseases and start early treatment. It is good she had the lasic surgery and hence, the follow up. Now she can move forward to treating this. Keep us posted.

Got the word just now, via an email...

It is not cancer. It is a fluid filled cyst. For now it is "watch and see." The surgery to remove it would be rough. They would have to remove her iris. And that would affect her vision.

So maybe it could actually go away? Cysts do that, don't they?

She didn't say anything about the HA's. I'm not going to ask about it. I just emailed her and said if she needs or wants help with dealing with HA's, let me know. Last week I sent her an article about not overdoing OTC meds and how preventative meds are the better route to go.

Maybe her HA's will get better, now that she knows she does not have cancer. I can only hope.

Thanks everyone!

What a relief... thanks God it's just a cysth. As it gives no symptoms, I hope that she can just forget about it and check it regularly.
This type of emotional stress would trigger me migraine for days and days.
So, she has good chances that the H/A will improve.
Keep us posted.

Oh Gosh how scary! But then, thank God it's not cancer. How terrified she must have been waiting for the lab to come thru, poor girl. And you all along with her! I am so terribly sorry for you all.
Why the headaches? Well, I am guessing - perhaps the cyst is creating a "inflammation" type response for the body, and like with the inflammation it may cause the HAS.
Maybe the cyst presses on some nerves, and hence the headache?

I will keep my fingers crossed for a hugely successful surgery and HAs gone with it!!

I'm so glad it wasn't cancer! Do they have any idea if this was related to the surgery?

Great news that it's not cancerous. Smile I hope that it resolves on it's own and that the headaches just go away. I can imagine, that eye is probably even more sensitive to light (I know lasik patients are anyway) and hopefully she can take a deep breath and just deal with the other symptoms now.

I don't know if it was related to the lasik surgery. But we can all breath easier now! Thanks!
